“Rested and relaxed”
Reviewed 27 October 2013

This was our second visit to The Atholl Arms and thoroughly enjoyed it to again. Its a beautiful building, very friendly staff to ensure it well looked after, lovely relaxed atmosphere and a place to curl up in front of a roaring fire on those cold nights.

We speak as we find .... we love this place. We have always found the staff really friendly and helpful. It's a traditional Scottish hotel, with decor and good traditional Scottish hospitality to match. It's not a boutique hotel but we and many other people wouldn't like that if it was :-)

It's only a short walk to Blair Castle; the post office; and local shop. It's literally just a few steps to the railway station - for a day trip, say, south to Edinburgh or north as far as Inverness. If you are into walking, you needn't never move your car if you don't want to .... so many walks from the front door.

We aim to have a few breaks here every year e.g. we stayed this month and we'll be up again at the beginning of November. Great.

We stayed here for a night when we visited the Enchanted Forest. Room was quite small but very clean and comfortable, although the bed was a bit 'bouncy' for us! We appreciated the hospitality tray with shortbread and even a fancy hot chocolate.
We had an afternoon tea as part of the deal and it was delicious, good old home baking at its best. All served by a lovely friendly lady. The glass of bubbly with it a nice touch.
Our room was a bit noisy because there was a group of men along the corridor, not the hotels fault.
The breakfast that greeted us in the morning was varied and plentiful, all served in a rather grand Highland Dining Hall with stag antlers and stuffed Capercaillie!. A good start to the day! Would stay here again if in the area.

Just stayed here for the night with an "It is on" deal.. and really cannot fault the place. A friendly welcome, and a lovely hotel. Very clean and full or Scottish character with Tartan decor throughout, Scottish artwork on the walls and Scottish background Music. We had afternoon tea as part of the deal - a choice of sandwiches, scones with jam & cream, shortbread, cream cakes, tea, coffee and wine. The room was a good size and very clean with good amenities, a decent shower and a lovely big comfortable bed. Two bars are on site, the main Hotel bar, off reception and the the Pub style Bothy bar at the side, both selling they're own Ales, brewed at the sister pub and brewery, and at reasonable prices. We had a meal in the Bothy Bar in the evening and were very happy with it, (Aberdeen Angus burger and the Steak pie).A quality Breakfast was had, the next day, in the dining room, which is more like a Huge Scottish Banqueting Hall. Again excellent decor... - If you like Monarch of the Glen off the TV, This place is as close to it as I've ever stayed, set in a lovely quiet village, central to all of Scotland. So, a great stay and will be back, Many Thanks.

Loved the look of this hotel, it's everything a Scottish hotel should be - accents of tartan, scotch paraphanilia all on the walls, and great food. As we stayed in the nearby caravan park, I can't comment on the accommodation or formal dining, but the Bothy bar aroubd tge side on the hotel is fab. Typical Scottish favourites on the menu, decent sized portions, varied kids menu, and not too pricy. There's a nice beer garden outside & swings for the little ones. The dining experience is informal, welcoming and cosy. I look forward to returning again next time I pop to Blair Atholl.

I have just read Murphy2384's account of his experiences at the Atholl Arms, and it could be really off putting for anyone wishing to plan wedding accommodation there. It is with this in mind that I would refer to the experience that we received on the occasion of my daughter's wedding - also held at Blair Castle. The wedding was 2 years in the planning, as we had the logistical problem of having to sort everything out from 350 miles away in Staffordshire. As you well know not everything can be arranged by telephone or email, and so it took 3 or 4 visits in the preceding 2 years. The hotel was excellent is supplying us with names and contact details for different trades i.e photographer, video, flowers etc. from the short lists and our flying visits we managed to get things done. Now for the 60 - 70 guests arriving from afar afield as London, and all staying for varying nights, we got all the information required regarding dining in the hall, and BnB / DBnBpackages, and forwarded this to all our guests, advising that if they wished to dine in the hall to give 24 hours notice, so that extra staff could be called in, and this worked very well indeed, also those that ate in the bar, just accepted that like at home you can't just walk in with 20 folks and expect to be served there and then, as it is not like the local curry house. The hotel is situated in a small village near to Pitlochry, not in a city centre where there are large amounts of contracted staff to cater for any eventuality, so I do not feel that it is too much of an imposition to pre book to allow for extra staffing, and extra buying in of food as everything iI believe is sourced locally. We didn't have one complaint from any of our guests regarding the hotel, and on the wedding day itself the staff were second to none in the assistance that they gave to us, and the recommendations that they made, to help the day. I do feel that the hotel is in it's rights to expect advance warning of large parties..

We have stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions and have never been disappointed. It is warm, clean and the staff are never anything but friendly and efficient.
Breakfast or dinner in the huge dining hall is a delight and again, the staff are superb. Meals are also served in the Bothy Bar to the rear of the hotel and again the service is excellent.
We will certainly be back.
