“Real luxury and comfort in beautiful surroundings”
Reviewed 15 March 2014

A really happy mixture of comfort, luxury, splending surroundings and professional hotel keeping of the old school.

Murrayshall is situated about 10 minutes drive from Perth city centre in an estate extending to over 300 acres. There's an obvious attraction for golfers - the hotel has two courses - but for those just wanting some quality relaxation in sybaratic surroundings with top-notch food this is hard to beat.

We stayed in a suite in the main house (there's also an annexe about 50 yards away with suite accommodation) with gorgeous views towards the Perthshire hills. As the sun started to fade in the early March evening, the texture and colours of the spectacular vista seemed to change by the minute: see photo. We have not enjoyed a more peaceful evening in a very long time.

The bedroom area was larger than you might find in a 5* London hotel with added bonus of a small, separate sitting area. The bathroom had clearly been refurbished recently at considerable expense.

Food in the Old Masters restaurant is well above average. As a bonus wine price mark-ups are very fair.

So, luxury, comfort, peace and quiet, efficient management, really willing staff...I wish it was always so. For all of this there is a price to pay, of course, but we felt that Murrayshall delivered real value.

Room Tip: Suite accommodation is as good as you'll find anywhere and worth the extra.

We stayed 2 nights recently and had a junior suite which was very comfortable and quiet.
We had pre dinner drinks in the cocktail bar which is beautiful, and dinner in the restaurant.
Although the food was good we felt, after a day walking and golfing that the portion size was a bit small and more veg would have been nice.Breakfast was very good and plenty of it.
We booked to play golf on one morning. Whilst the girls in the golf club office were extremely friendly the guy in the shop wasnt ! The course we played on was built on a steep hill and very confusing as there was no signage and no indication by markers which hole we were on. First golf course we have played that doesnt have a hole number indicated! .

We booked a dinner for my fathers 80th and as we were travelling from all over booked rooms at the hotel. We were offered a private room to cater for the 11 of us and were given a menu in advance to look at.

On arrival the room had been beautifully prepared, attention to detail was fantastic.

The rooms were ready and were ideal, really comfortable and in keeping with the character of the house.

The meal itself was excellent and great value. We stayed in the room till 2 am laughing and with a waiter allocated to make sure we were "topped" up.

Breakfast in the morning rounded off a great venue, great value and superbly situated in stunning location

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 1

Stayed here one night in January. Comfortable bed and large room, not as disabled friendly as it could be, put in a wet floor shower and grab rails and it would be excellent. The lounge is beautiful with a large wood burning fire, enjoyed a couple of pre dinner drinks. Staff were friendly and helpful. Excellent food served in restaurant. Could do with changing the background music which plays in lounge and restaurant.

After a ropey start with a less than friendly receptionist things got much better! We had a junior suite which was clean but very dated - pine furniture, old stains on carpet and generally very 1980s but sufficient for our needs. The hotel came into its own when we went to dinner- excellent pre dinner service with friendly waitress in cosy bar with open fire, delicious tasting menu at a sensible pace with attentive service and lovely atmosphere. Breakfast was similar and beautifully cooked, fresh local ingredients. Also a minor bugbear but in modern times charging for wifi seems unnecessary.

We stayed for one night on Saturday 11th January 2014. It was perfect, the room was wonderful and the bed was massive! We came here for a relaxing night and we got exactly that, peace and quiet with lovely surroundings, we couldn't have asked for anything better. The staff were so friendly and accomodating and the food was excellent. We will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for the Murray Room, biggest bed I have ever seen.

We booked an overnight for Saturday for 3 couples with the intention of the 3 menfolk playing golf in the morning while the ladies went shopping in nearby Perth. The menfolk played golf but the ladies were so comfortable in the lounge bar that they were still there by the time we returned. We ended up spending the rest of the afternoon in the cosy lounge and then met up in the cocktail bar later for our meal in the dining room. The choice of meals were just great and all were very pleased with their choices.

This winter package of DB&B in a superior room was fantastic value and a very welcome winter break.

Room Tip: Superior rooms are good value and are in the process of refurbishment at the time of our visit.
