This was a stop of before a early morning flight. Booked this online and did state that we could have an evening meal which, we were then told after booking that we couldn't. Slightly disappointed, but they did point us to an Italian restaurant near by. The room was clean and the bed was comfy there was a few little things that didn't look great with the finish to the room paintwork patchy wire hanging from the ceiling cracked Coving etc. as we were leaving early we had to have a continental breakfast which was left out overnight and had to help ourself to. This was slightly disappointing . There was no facilities for toast ,and no coffee or tea which to say the least was on price of 85.00 seemed slightly steep

Thanks for your review and kind comments.
We do evening meals Monday to Friday always and do say on the website to ask about weekends which is driven by demand in these challenging times. We as you say are very close to many good restaurants which cater for our clients should we not be open for dinner on a sat or sun. I might add that the drawing room is always open for tea/coffee refreshments and light snacks as per normal times.
Again breakfast serving times are well advertised on the website and very early leaving times are unfortunate. For these we do leave a light continental style breakfast in the buffet area but cannot leave toasters out due to fire regulations.
On the subject of fire regulations we are in the process of upgrading our system hence the small number of small cable ends that could be seen. Along with this we are carrying out a comprehensive redecoration and refurbishment of the Hotel which is well advanced.
On the price, we offer an inclusive rate that includes taxes, free Wi-Fi, free parking and free breakfasts. This is to benefit all of our guests and is well detailed on the website. Hopefully you can return and experience the enhanced property.

The hotel has a distinctive warm character and people are very friendly making you feel like you are in your family circle or with your old best friends. The food is good and breakfast is definitely excellent and served with care in a fashinating room decorated with great photographs. Free internet and free help from the reception for any problems you may have are defitely a plus.

I have been staying at Tom & Maureen's place since 2007 and visit 2-3 times each year when travelling to and from my home in the Hebrides and they are always my first choice when staying in the Glasgow area. The reason for this is because they are two of the nicest, genuine, warm and hard working people I have had the pleasure to meet in what is otherwise a fickle and tough industry made even harder and stressful by the advent and influence of review sites.

I find it really concerning that customers are permitted in the 21st century to write such vitriolic and personal comments about a person and their business without first proving that they have tried to resolve the matter regarding their complaints with the owners first. Paying guests are paying for accommodation, food and service - and no amount of money buys them the right to be so abusive, disrespectful and vindictive towards other people. I do wish review sites would review their own policies and standards with regard to such comments and behaviour. This isn't entertainment reality TV - this is people's lives, businesses, health and sanity!

Ashtree House Hotel is a lovely old building - it has character, is quirky and has wonderful history. But more than that try looking beyond the bricks and mortar from a half empty glass perspective and instead engage with the owners and the staff who run the business and enjoy your stay from a half full perspective.

Thank you Tom & Maureen and all at Ashtree House - I look forward to returning sometime again soon for another comfortable, relaxing stay knowing I will be well looked after.

Room Tip: I stayed in Room 5 at the top of the house which was extremely spacious, well appointed and comforta...

My famliy and I stayed for 5 nights and experienced a true family run hotel with the personal touch. The Hotel was perfectly clean and very well presented. The rooms were clean and spacious. The food was excellent and breakfast a treat to get up for. The family were down to earth and very helpful and friendly, giving advice on locations to visit. The evening meals are highly recommended. The atmosphere in the hotel was excellent and I would not hesitate to return or recommend to any traveler. This is how a hotel should be and the family run aspect of the place, puts the corporate hotels that i have stayed in to shame. Glad that I booked and would definitely book again when in Scotland.

Stayed in room 2, pretty much above the reception room and was most impressed with space and cleanilness. Nice modern ensuite and comfortable bed. Great old house with interesting local hsitory, and a great breakfast in the morning. Would stay again - also, very close to the airport.

Room Tip: Go for room 2 - we loved it!

We book our stay for one night prior to an early morning departure. We also booked transportation from the hotel to the airport for the following day. We checked in around 8:00 p.m. We were given a room on the first floor (really the second floor by US standards). We were not shown to our room but simple told upstairs. Nobody asked if we needed help with your bags. When I told them that I had booked transportation for the following morning they told me that 6:30 a.m. was too early and that it was unavailable. They did not offer a refund, which I had already paid. They offered to call a cab. When I asked how early we should leave I was told, "I don't know." They do not have a place to print out boarding passes but they suggested the public library but, of course, that was closed. After we found the room and hauled our bags upstairs, we asked if we could get a little snack in the restaurant. The literature in the lobby of the hotel said the restaurant was open until 11:00 p.m. Not true. Closed. We were not given an alternative. When we asked for a possible restaurant close, we were given some general directions, "down the hill to the right." No offer to call ahead and see if anything was available. When we asked again about breakfast the following morning (again paid for) we were told they didn't serve that early. No suggestion of we can have coffee for you. When we left the following morning we never saw a soul. Additional, this place is not as close to the airport as you are lead to believe from the website. Room was clean but nothing special. No tub, just a small shower.

Room Tip: The first floor is really the second by US standards. No elevator and no help with bags. Choose wis...

We are always sorry when guests visit does not match their expectations and from reviews we try and modify our product to make it better.

Just to get the facts correct :
These guests arrived after dinner service, (the literature referred to is a flyer located in the hall indicating opening times for the general public for general access, the guests simply did not ask and we think they found the flyer on the morning they left !), they left before breakfast service starts as published, and when our transport is unavailable we organise a local cab company at exactly the same cost as the airport transfer. We do not have bellboys or doormen as we are a 14 bed hotel trying to keep costs down for all of our guests, full service hotels charge considerably more for all of these functions. All of these items/services are as published on our website.

The room is on the first floor, up I flight of easy going Georgian stairs. The guests were repaid in cash the airport transfer cost (2 in reception witnessed this !). We do not advise clients when to go to the airport, this is information contained within their own flight documentation and clearly a decision to be made by guests not hotels, due to potential mistakes ! We do however advise how long it will take to get to the airport which is 10 minutes as published and we are located exactly where our website tells you.
We do offer to help people with their luggage if they obviously need assistance or ask, none of which was relevant in this case. We are a listed building hence no elevators.
There is a printer on our Wi-Fi network which is located at reception and available to all our guests with devices. And you know, if you are travelling without a computer or mobile device all you have to do is ask nicely and reception will access the appropriate airline on your behalf if possible, as long as you have the appropriate documents to print out boarding passes.
With regard to dinner options in the town there are many and we clearly highlighted the location of those nearest us with the information that in our experience most have availability after 9.0pm, we were not asked to call ahead which would have been simple.
With regard to breakfast the guests were very clearly shown the location of the continental style buffet unit which is left for early leaving guests.
Finally, if you purchase a smaller room that is what you are given, larger rooms are available on the system. Notwithstanding this point, all our rooms are of a good standard (Guest feedback).
We think that these guests did not know what type of hotel they were coming to, or what our various opening hours and service conditions were which are fairly standard. It clearly pays to look at the description before booking as we are absolutely as described.
Finally we are always saddened when we receive a review like this. Firstly because we always strive to provide a standard to the best of our abilities and indeed will look at matters to try and ensure that these issues do not occur. Secondly because at times reviews can be slightly vindictive and one sided and do not recognise that as a business we set our own standards and conditions of sales and service which are published online.

Low hygiene at the breakfast - there is no pot where to put the marmelade from the main jar. So every client takes it to the table and you don't know if she/he uses a dedicated spoon or something already used....
The sink in the bathroom is so small that the one of your dentist is larger.
The pics on the website are fake... They don't represent the true situation.
The staff is so negligent that they didn't inform us that the morning after there would have been a marathon and all the steet closed. The Lasy told me that I would have read the notices in the streets... But we arrived late at 9pm and did't go out...

Bad stay!!! SKIP IT!!!

We have been waiting for this review as it was promised by the guest in a blasphemous tirade as she presumed that she could not leave the hotel when she wanted to because of a 10k that was on-going at the time and blamed the hotel receptionist for this.
To deal with the various points :
Marmalade : Clean spoons in abundance with locally produced quality jams and marmalade.
Small Room : whb is a proprietary unit to suit the walk in glazed power shower, more than adequate to clean hands, brush teeth etc. The room booked although the smallest and cheapest is still fitted out in a similar manner to all of our rooms. If you want to enjoy larger facilities then book a larger room.
Pictures are exactly as the Hotel and most of them have been taken by our hotel guests over the years, from wedding photographers etc..

In the morning both of our girls in the breakfast room attempted to talk to the lady to ask the standard questions such as tea, coffee etc., and also to impart the usual local knowledge such as how to get to the airport and so on. She would not look at our staff and just barked single word commands all through breakfast. Her travelling partner did not wish to engage at all and he did not utter a word during their entire stay.

When the guest arrived at the hotel she was rude and obnoxious to our staff and when this happens we usually have a chat amongst the staff to ensure the situation is handled with 'soft gloves'. Sometimes this attitude precludes an attempt to get money off etc. The following morning the hotel car made several trips to the airport, all we had to do was ask the traffic police nicely and were able to make our journeys, so no problems there.

After breakfast this lady embarked on a tirade in perfect English directed at a single girl at our reception, so bad was this that she was told that the police would be contacted if she did not leave in an orderly manner. A lot of our guests heard this and were completely shocked at her attitude and without exception were completely supportive of our position of being innocent and wondering why this was happening. Amazingly, some 30 minutes later she did exactly the same again and this time reception picked up the telephone to call the police before she left.
I discovered later when talking to some of the coordinators of the 10k that she was obnoxious to them when asking to be allowed out (she did not have a plane or bus to catch) so they were not in a hurry to allow her out, surprise !

Too many people these days use the review sites as a threat like this and mostly it is to get money off or non returnable deposits back or simply to wrongfully rubbish a hotel because they did not get their demands met. Hotels offer rooms at their specification and on their terms which are usually very reasonable. The system needs to be changed because many of the comments made are libellous, threatening and downright lies and it is almost impossible to get them removed, like her comments that the hotel photographs are fake.

So hopefully you can see from the average score that we have achieved from our incredible guests that we work incredibly hard in challenging times and if we fail all you have to do is ask nicely and we will do all in our powers to help you, that is what we are here for.
