Just spent Valentine's night at this Ayrshire hotel/restaurant and cannot praise it highly enough.
Whilst other restaurants take advantage of special occasions such as these by hiking their prices up, The Carrick Lodge were advertising a three-course dinner with a glass of Prosecco on arrival for only £45 per COUPLE. I was a little worried that they may cut corners to provide this kind of value but was more than pleasantly surprised.
On arrival we were led to our table, which was nicely decorated with heart-shaped balloons. The prosecco was served with a strawberry decoration and was followed by a platter of homemade bread and, as a special treat, the ladies were presented with a gift of 'Thornton's' chocolates.
We ordered from the special Valentine's menu (quite extensive for an occasion). My wife ordered Chicken Tempura as a starter and I ordered Chilli Pork Spring Rolls. They were served shortly after, generous portions and cooked to perfection.
The main courses were Fish Pie, for my wife, and I had Chicken, Pork and Beef served with a brandy/cream sauce. Again, no complaints.
From the half-dozen, or so, sweets on offer, my wife ordered the Pavlova with fresh berries and ice-cream and being the pig that I am, I ordered the Millionaire's Shortbread Coupe. Both were delightful.
If that wasn't enough, tea and coffee were served along with shortbread and homemade fudge. A lot of other establishments would have classed that as a fourth course but not 'The Carrick'.
The service was friendly and efficient without being obtrusive and this helped make it an excellent night overall.
Thank you to the Carrick Lodge and their amazing team. You made our night.
