“Splendid, Excellent, First class!”
Reviewed 13 October 2013

My wife and I were planning to travel from Yorkshire to Aye to buy some kittens (Yes, a 4.5 hour drive must seem excessive, but there you go!)..

We had seen Appin House on Trip Advisor and decided to book on the strength of the reviews here. We were definitely not disappointed! On arrival we parked on the road outside, our car just fitting into the space provided. There were also plenty of room on their drive where we could have parked, had the road spot been taken. On arrival we rang the bell and were greeted by a sleepy David (He'd been having a well deserved snooze - It was a Saturday afternoon, after all!) who opened the door with a big smile on his face and showed us to our room. It was made absolutely apparent that nothing would be too much trouble.

The room itself was amazing, very spacious, excellent decor that felt as though it had just been decorated and scrupulously clean. The bathroom was the same, it looked very very clean, and as though it had recently been decorated. The shower was absolutely and utterly magnificent. I've never had such a powerful shower. It truly was amazing!

We were asked what we would like for our breakfasts the night before, and given a little card to fill in with our choices.

We then went out to meet our kittens and to find some food - we ate at Lychee's restaurant, which was amazing!

The morning after we awoke early and went downstairs to the breakfast room, and were waited on hand and foot! There's a good selection of breakfast fayre, apart from the hot food which was ordered the night before. There were yoghurts, 4 or 5 different cereals and toast etc.

The full Scottish breakfast was amazing, I can't compliment them enough! (Tip, if you fancy 2 of anything, just put 2 ticks down on the card!) Bacon, Sausage, egg, black pudding, tomato and a tatty scone. Absolutely fantastic, cooked fresh to order. Beautiful!

All in all, an excellent experience, and for the price, far far better than we were expecting!

We can highly recommend every aspect of this marvellous guest house!

We stayed for 2 nights at Appin House and would thoroughly recommend it to other travellers. Melissa and David are the perfect hosts, very welcoming and helpful. Our room which overlooked the delightful rear garden was quiet and extremely comfortable, with a lovely en suite shower room. Breakfast is served in the conservatory and Melissa's full Scottish breakfast is highly recommended. The town centre is an easy walk away, and David and Melissa are happy to recommend good places to eat. If you want a comfortable and friendly place to stay when visiting Ayr, then look no further. We shall certainly return to Appin House!

We thoroughly enjoyed our night at Appin House. Melissa and David made us very welcome. The decor was great (admired the chandeliers) and the house was immaculate. Melissa recommended a great place to eat too - The Beresford.

All of the 5-star reviews here have definitely got it right! No one could wish for better hosts than Melissa and David. Could we possibly leave our (considerable) luggage early on the Sunday while we collect our friends at the airport? No problem - they even helped carry it in. We were going on to occupy a self-catering property in the area (Alloway Retreat - excellent:q.v.) but for b&b (and value for money) this is up there with the best!

Surprise and Delight!! We received a warm, friendly welcome by Melissa, with an immediate offer to give up one of their parking spaces for our vehicle. Upon walking into the guest house, we felt immediately relaxed and at home. Décor was excellent and everything was impeccably clean. Our room overlooked the backyard garden beautifully in bloom. An excellent "to order" full English breakfast was prepared and served in a sunroom overlooking the garden. We highly recommend this guest house!!

We recently visited Ayr for a Wedding at the nearby Brigadoon Hotel and consider ourselves very very lucky to have found Appin House for our 3 night stay. Melissa and David were extremely good hosts. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The rooms were nicely decorated, very clean and comfortable with extra little touches, i.e. Cookies to accompany the tea and coffee and wine glasses supplied when they noticed we had a bottle of wine. Breakfast was consumed in the lovely Conservtory overlooking the family garden. The food was ordered the night before but cooked to order at the time we specified. A very hearty Scottish breakfast or continental or both. We would definately stay at Appin House again and most certainly recommend it to our friends and family.

Room Tip: of three guests rooms we ony saw two and both were excellant
