Although the hotel is due a refurbishment, it is warm, clean, welcoming, has great food and very friendly staff. it is 5 mins by car to the centre of Ayr and 2 mins to the beach. The rooms are not massive but they are very clean and tidy. The bathrooms are in need of upgrading, but for the money it is a good hotel.

The room was tiny, tired, dated and shabby.

The sleeping area of my single, en-suite room was 7 feet x 6 feet. It overlooked the service entry and restaurant back door, which was noisy with staff and deliveries.

The fittings and furniture in the bedroom can only be described as primitive.

The bathrooom was very old-fashioned and getting hot water in the shower was quite a challenge to figure out.

The bar and restaurant were nice. The food was good and the breakfast was filling.

The staff was alternately friendly and dismissive, almost rude.

i cannot recommend the Chestnuts to anyone.

nice little hotel with great potential. It seems a new team has just taken over and starting to give the place a good dusting down. Restaurant is great, good food, fab breakfast.
Room however is crammed miniature with sanitary installations dating from early 70's if lucky, old carpet, stained headboard. Not nice. Clean though.
Very friendly & helpful young team running the place, I wish all the best for future but would think twice before recommending the accommodation in the moment.

I stayed here with some friends visiting from England for two nights in January.

The staff made us feel so welcome, and the bar with its open fire was so welcoming and comfortable. The restaurant was very modern, and the food superb.

Although the rooms were a little dated the were clean, comfortable and very quiet during the night.

I would thoroughly recommend the chestnuts if travelling for business or pleasure

I stay at the Chestnuts on business every 2/3 weeks, whilst I think the rooms are a litttle dated, I cannot agree with the previous review.

The rooms are always clean, the staff friendly and attentive and the food excellent!
