“our third visit”
Reviewed 6 January 2014

Martins Grill is absolutely out of this world - the food is fantastic and the staff are great. This is our third stay at the Fairfield and we would always try here first if staying in the area. Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean. This is one of our favourite Scottish hotels. We didnt use the leisure facilities so cant comment on them.

Stayed here for 2 nights over the new year period as a crowd of 11, including adults & children. The staff were extremely friendly & helpful, could not have done more for us all. We stayed in the 'racing suite' situated on the ground floor, it was very spacious, spotlessly clean, warm, great bathroom & lovely decorated! All of our party sleeping in other rooms also had great rooms with no faults!

Breakfast was a waited service which was a nice touch as food was made fresh to order. We enjoyed an evening meal in the hotel restaurant on New years eve which was great, lots of choice, would recommend eating here too!

The entertainment provided by the hotel on new years eve was also a welcomed touch, a lively atmosphere enjoyed by all.

I did not use any of the available leisure facilities so cannot comment, overall would definitely visit this hotel again.

Fabulous way to bring in the New Year - rooms were big and warm and clean entertainment was great too. We had a evening meal which was lovely and the breakfast was great - full Scottish breakfast. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The leisure facilities were good although the pool could have been warmer jacuzzi was lovely and warm. The sauna was not working however enjoyed the rest of leisure facilities. excellent value for New Year stay - will come back again

Room Tip: we stayed in Bramley suite which was huge a bit dated in comparison to Racing and Martin suites

On 2nd January 2014, myself & my fiancée stayed at the Fairfield House as a wind down from the stresses of the festive season. We were disappointed to find out on our arrival, that the leisure facilities were closed and we had not been informed of this prior to our visit! We expressed our disappointment, firstly to Morven at reception and then to the duty manager, Craig. Instantly Craig apologised for the inconvenience and offered us an upgrade to one of the hotels suites. Whilst this was being arranged Craig organised for us to have coffee and also offered to have our luggage transferred. The level of customer service offered by Morven & Craig was excellent & both are a credit to the hotel. We have previously stayed here and on both occasions we have enjoyed our stay immensely. We would definitely stay again. Once again many thanks Craig & Morven.

We stayed at this hotel for a couple of days over Christmas. In the main staff that we met were both friendly and helpful. We were allocated Room 9 which is classed as an Executive Room. This room has a splendid outlook to the sea and Arran and has the potential to be an excellent accommodation. However there are a few issues that need addressing. Firstly the central heating system was turned on full and unfortunately thermostatic control knob broken (off). Not necessarily a massive problem at this time of year but this is a problem that could easily be rectified and in principle should be available as it can be a bit uncomfortable at times. Other than that general comments below apply in that the rooms in I think the older part of this hotel basically need a refresh. We have previously stayed in a newer exec room and was much improved but at the expense of the outlook.

Unfortunately during our second night here there was quite a heavy storm. This resulted in a leak in our room starting about midnight. Clearly this is just an unfortunate result of adverse weather however our stay/sleep was disturbed. I fully accept that we could have requested a room move at that time but chose not to because of the inconvenience.

In the morning I mentioned this whilst paying my bill at reception. No offer was made of recompense although an apology was given.

Finally we did not actually eat evening meal at the hotel so cannot comment on for this occasion.

I would probably stay again here but request a room in the newer part if there has been no general upgrade.

Overall this hotel is in a great location and has the potential to be a first rate offering but I think needs a little bit more maintenance in parts.

Bit of a mixed bag of a stay. The food in Martin's Bar and Grill was amazing and the serving staff were lovely, friendly and attentive when you needed them, unobtrusive when you didn't. We didn't have to wait for anything but never felt hurried.
Similarly the reception staff were extremely helpful and made us feel very welcome.
The room we stayed in was nice but a bit worn down, some paper hanging off and the inside of the wardrobe was lined with quite tatty material, both stained and frayed. The view was to die for and we spent a long time sitting in the window seat. The bathroom itself was very nice and generally clean but the shower curtain was appallingly dirty, with that orange bacterial scum growing along the bottom and splashes of someone else's shower gel on it.I didn't notice this until I was in the shower. When I complained afterwards the receptionist told us it should have been changed between each guest but given the state of the curtain that clearly wasn't happening.
The pool part of the hotel was not very good when we visited. The man on duty didn't notice we were waiting for towels as he was head down consulting his phone, where he stayed for most of the 30 mins or so we stayed in the leisure centre. The water was a bit too chilly and the pool room itself was inadequately heated for comfort on a Scottish winter day. The steam room was tiny and we couldn't get into the sauna at all as it was full the whole time we where there. Both of these were up a corridor which once again was a bit chilly. Lastly, when I spread my towel out to dry myself it was full of holes. It all felt a bit low rent and grubby and as it was a deciding factor in booking the hotel was quite disappointing.
So in summary, the front of house staff couldn't be better, the chef and his kitchen staff are top notch and although there are a few housekeeping glitches these could be easily sorted. However the level of service and facilities in leisure centre are poor and this really lets the hotel down.

Attended a Christmas party night and stayed over, our room was very cold, when I went to reception they had someone up immediately to give us an electric heater, it was soon cozy!
The room was dated, but for what we paid we were delighted!
Loads of tea, coffee, even filter coffee and hot chocolate on tea tray.
Nice toiletries and stationary for writing, you hardly see that these days!
Our other friends who we're staying had fabulous rooms.
The meal at party night was excellent, service was very efficient, we had a glass of bubbly on arrival and nachos later on in the evening which nobody ate as we were all too stuffed from the meal!
There was a raffle and our friends won a 2 night stay with db&b the lucky things!
After the party we sat in the bar until 5am where the night porter looked after us serving us drinks and even made us some toast, what a gent!!
Amazingly we made it to breakfast, and boy what a breakfast, it was delicious!
All the staff we came across were do friendly, and I would definitely recommend this hotel, handy for the town & train station too!
