I was part of a group staying at the St Columba Hotel. After a long but beautiful journey it was great to be met at the ferry and our luggage taken ahead whilst we enjoyed the short walk to the hotel. We were given a lovely welcome by Dot and the staff and quickly shown to our rooms. This is a real Independent hotel and so do not expect your typical purpose built hotel with no character which so many are these days. The meals were lovely, the bedrooms warm and comfortable and it was great to just sit in the lounge, read a book, enjoy the views back over to Mull and relax. The hotel is in a great position, only a very short walk to the Abbey and with so few cars on the island you can just walk and keep on walking. I shall definitely return.

Iona, being a very small island, has not a lot in terms of accommodation and when we stayed, many places had already closed for winter. That being said, The St Columba Hotel is lovely. Good rooms with sweeping views over Mull and the waters and, of course, very quiet as there are hardly any cars on this island. Unless you have a permit, you cannot take your car onto Iona, so foot traffic only. The hotel is 2 minute walk to the Abbey and the little village. Very clean and great staff who looked after us very well. Beware, there is no TV although WIFI is available, but that should not deter you from staying here, it is the ambiance that captures you!

We stayed here for 9 nights as we were on a spiritual pilgrimage to this isle known for its sacredness throughout its history. The hotel was perfect for our group of 44 people. The rooms were small, adequate and clean. The beds were comfortable as were the pillows. WIFI was available but I never logged in. It would destroy my purpose for being there. The staff was outstanding in every way. The food was terrific with an emphasis on organic vegetables and plenty of seafood. Wind and drinks were available.

Room Tip: Ask for one with a sea view. Room #12 was particularly larger than most others.

I guess everything is close on Iona, but the St Columba is adjacent to the Abbey, and 10 minutes lazy walk from the ferry terminal.
This is a beautiful, comfortable hotel, with character. This is not to say that it is old and crusty because it isn't. Instead it is a lovely quiet, relaxed hotel, with excellent staff ("can we take you/your bags to/from the ferry?"), comfortable rooms, and an excellent lounge overlooking the Sound of Mull.
No doubt the sunshine makes everything look good, but I am sure it is just as good in the winter.
Restaurant food was excellent.
It even has WiFi!

The Hotel does everything possible to be Green - solar water heating, local food, cooking oil used in the vehicles as fuel, organic vegetable and fruit garden.

The staff are very friendly, the rooms very comfortable and the situation very beautiful. Meals are of a very high quality.

You can get picked up and taken back to the ferry - very useful in the rain! Youa re a two minute walk from the Abbey

Room Tip: The rooms facing the sea have amazing views, worth the extra

My better half and I decided to treat ourselves to afternoon tea at this hotel, having gone on the recommendation of the owners of our B & B on Mull. We were not to be disappointed!
We chose savoury homemade scones accompanied by crowdie ( like cream cheese), homemade shortbread and delicious carrot and oat muffin. It was all served in the sun lounge looking over the water to Mull, brought to our table by very friendly and attentive staff. Had we decided to stay on Iona rather than Mull we would choose to stay at the Columba for its ambience which is so relaxing.

Stayed for a week with a group and thoroughly enjoyed the food and the ambience. May be a few more vegetables would have gone down well but really no complaints.

The lounge that runs along the back of the hotel faces onto the Sound Of Mull and is really good for a quiet tea or coffee.

I travelled with a group and the booking in was excellently done, with the minimum of fuss. Cases were brought, by arrangement from the boat.

Room Tip: Sea views are the best
