Owner description: Iolaire sails twice daily from Iona at 9.45am or1.45pm OR from Fionnphort at 10am or 2pm. The trip lasts 3 hours and you can get on or off at Fionnphort or Iona. The Iolaire is a brown wooden boat and returns to Fionnphort first at 1pm or 5pm and then to Iona 10 minutes later. The sea journey takes 45 minutes and en route a wide variety of sea life may be observed. Once at Staffa a commentary is given and Fingal's Cave can be seen from the Iolaire. Passengers are landed weather permitted and given at lease one hour ashore which allows time to walk into Fingal's Cave or up the ladders to see the puffins when they are in season. There is always something exciting to see and the crew will be happy to welcome you on board the Iolaire.

“Magnificent scenery.”
Reviewed 6 August 2014

The day we went was lovely and sunny with a strong freezing wind. Even so we thoroughly enjoyed walking around the Island at Staffa's Cave which is quite amazing. Iona is beautiful and very interesting and the drive along Mull has lovely scenery as well. You need good walking shoes and probably warm clothing.

Glad you enjoyed your day out and saw Staffa in a different light. The cave can be very atmospheric on duller days. Thanks for coming with Iolaire and the crew.

“Great experience”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

I think this was the highlight of our tour of Scotland. The island was magical, the rock formations fascinating and the puffins stole the show. Next time I would go in the morning to ensure that we allowed more time on Iona which merits a much longer visit than the hour we gave it. We just ran out of time but I hasten to say that was our bad organisation, not anything to do with the very good tour operator.

This is excellent advice as there is lots of do and see on Iona and it is worth getting up early to fit it all in on one day. I'm glad you saw Staffa and enjoyed it, the best days out pass too quickly but stay forever in the memory.

Great day out and worth every penny. The information given was good. The Puffins were very entertaining and Fingal's cave is amazing.

Thanks, I am glad you enjoyed your visit to Staffa and you were lucky to catch the puffins at this time of year as they can be here today and gone tomorrow.

“Fantastic”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

We booked Staffa and Iona trip from Mull. As I have a mobility problem I knew that I would not be able to cope with Staffa therefore requested to remain on boat. I did not expect to be given a personal tour around the island but this is what was offered. The guide was friendly, informative, caring and this trip was the highlight of my holiday.

Davie always enjoys it when folk stay aboard and is happy to take them for a wee sail whilst the others are ashore. Staffa looks quite stunning from the sea and although Fingal's Cave is the most spectacular, all the rock formations are interesting. I'm glad you decided to go in spite of your mobility challenges.

“Best wee boat trip in the Inner Hebrides”
Reviewed 26 July 2014

This was the jewel in the crown during an amazing summer day trip to Staffa then Iona.
We chose the first boat tour of the day and were pleased to have made that choice, as it give us the opportunity to visit Fingal's cave before it become over run with other day trippers.
Having had an opportunity to view the cave briefly on our own, we were then able to sit back and relax to the sound of the Atlantic surf which inspired Felix Mendelssohn to his overture.
Another of life's little ticks done.
If you wish to see Puffins then you are better off choosing the Treshnish Island tour as they were only visible through binoculars out at sea from Staffa, not much chance of a photographers dream shot...
