Owner description: Iolaire sails twice daily from Iona at 9.45am or1.45pm OR from Fionnphort at 10am or 2pm. The trip lasts 3 hours and you can get on or off at Fionnphort or Iona. The Iolaire is a brown wooden boat and returns to Fionnphort first at 1pm or 5pm and then to Iona 10 minutes later. The sea journey takes 45 minutes and en route a wide variety of sea life may be observed. Once at Staffa a commentary is given and Fingal's Cave can be seen from the Iolaire. Passengers are landed weather permitted and given at lease one hour ashore which allows time to walk into Fingal's Cave or up the ladders to see the puffins when they are in season. There is always something exciting to see and the crew will be happy to welcome you on board the Iolaire.

We've been meaning to visit Staffa for years, but never got around to it. Overseas visitors wanted to go to Iona, we wanted to go to Fingal's cave, so we combined both - what an amazing day we had! We were so lucky a day with perfect weather. The days either side were miserable and it would have been a totally different experience, I suspect - possibly dangerous to be walking on the rocks on Staffa if it were wet? Perfect conditions allowed us to get incredible views and photos of incredible rock formations and scenery. We only saw one puffin and one seal, but the island was just beautiful! Iona Abbey was fascinating and well kept with knowledgable and helpful staff. Our visitors had toured Scotland but said that our trip to Mull, Iona and Staffa were the highlight of their trip. Scotland at its very best!

It is always a pleasure to show off your country with pride and Staffa, Mull and Iona on a good day can't be beaten. Thanks for coming with Iolaire and enjoying the trip.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip on the MB Iolaire. The skipper is friendly and a veritable fount of information and not just about the wildlife and scenery - I hadn't even thought to wonder hwere the Iona ferry spends the night until he pointed out that it drops anchor in a sheltered channel between the mainland and a small island. We missed the Staffa puffins by a day but Fingal's cave was as spectacular as we had expected - possibly more so. If you are in the area, I can thoroughly recommend the MB Iolaire and her crew.

I'm laughing at your description of Davie, he even manages to surprise me on the Staffa trip as he always comes up with something different that I haven't heard before. Thanks for appreciating the trip we are glad you enjoyed it.

The day we went was lovely and sunny with a strong freezing wind. Even so we thoroughly enjoyed walking around the Island at Staffa's Cave which is quite amazing. Iona is beautiful and very interesting and the drive along Mull has lovely scenery as well. You need good walking shoes and probably warm clothing.

Glad you enjoyed your day out and saw Staffa in a different light. The cave can be very atmospheric on duller days. Thanks for coming with Iolaire and the crew.

I think this was the highlight of our tour of Scotland. The island was magical, the rock formations fascinating and the puffins stole the show. Next time I would go in the morning to ensure that we allowed more time on Iona which merits a much longer visit than the hour we gave it. We just ran out of time but I hasten to say that was our bad organisation, not anything to do with the very good tour operator.

This is excellent advice as there is lots of do and see on Iona and it is worth getting up early to fit it all in on one day. I'm glad you saw Staffa and enjoyed it, the best days out pass too quickly but stay forever in the memory.

Great day out and worth every penny. The information given was good. The Puffins were very entertaining and Fingal's cave is amazing.

Thanks, I am glad you enjoyed your visit to Staffa and you were lucky to catch the puffins at this time of year as they can be here today and gone tomorrow.
