“Carloway Broch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 May 2014

The day we were there it was very foggy and damp. it made the atmosphere of the site very eerie. how this broch is still standing is a credit to the builders of it. amazing to see the amount of skill taken to hew out the corect proportions to make the stones fit... very well worth a visit....

“Impressive”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 May 2014

The ruin of a dwelling, 2,100 years old, set in a stunning location high on a hill. Very exposed on a windy day, but then there is always the visitor centre at the car park. Certainly worth a visit.

“Excellent historical site, excellent small info centre.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 May 2014

From a distance it doesn't look much but when you climb up the short walk and get to see it up close you realise just how much work and skill went into building it. The fact that it is still standing after all this time is testament to that skill. The info boards are good with plenty of background both historically and regarding the building techniques.

“Broch and Roll - a stunning landmark”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2014

Carloway is a quaint enough district anyway but this well-preserved broch adds history and myth to what is already a fascinating part of the world.
Just a few minutes drive (ten minutes walk) from the nearby Doune Braes Hotel and ten minutes drive (45 minutes walk) from Callanish, this visitor centre and historic attraction is sizeable enough to while away an hour or two, especially if the weather happens to be friendly. If not, there is a small exhibition and shop (limited hours), plus loos.
It's a rather interactive experience for kids - they can crawl around the bowels of the tower without too much danger - but if you're over six feet, you might have problems limboing under the lower reaches. Still, take a camera and you'll still be happy.
To reach the broch, you'll need to negotiate a stepped pathway.

“Scotch broch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 March 2014

We visited here 2011. The broch was great, well built and must have been impressive when in use. The visitor centre was closed when we were there, not sure if it;s reopened but it is still worth a visit.
