“Wow and wow. Perfect getaway with a bit of luxury.”

We chose to stay at Alt Dubh for our honeymoon. We have regularly stayed in cottages around Scotland so know what to expect. We chose this cottage because it had all the same elements of peace, quiet, rural, sea views, log burning stove, traditional build and is away from the main tourist trail but also, as it was our honeymoon, a bit of luxury as it has a sauna and hot tub. We were not disappointed! The cottage is cosy and well laid out with really good modern electric heaters as well as 2 log burning stoves (we were here in May). The area is a great little area to easily access both Lewis and Harris or to stay and explore around the cottage. There is a lovely little pebble beach to walk to and some hills to explore- it's very peaceful. There is a shop/tearoom/museum just six mies away for any basic food that you might need. The hot tub was brilliant,we have only been in a couple, but it is the best one we have been in so far, with each corner having its own moulding and jets so you can move around and have your whole body massaged(it also has it's own lighting) It was very comfortable and relaxing. The sauna was great - warmed up any cold bones. They are both located in a separate barn next door to the house and has been decorated tastefully providing a lovely little getaway form it all and indulgent feeling- we absolutely loved it. Great cottage.

Liked best: it was a great all round cottage with a touch of luxury
Liked least: for the knowledge of anyone booking. We know that food isn't included but it is the 1st time we have been to a holiday cottage where there was absolutely nothing- no salt/pepper/teabag/oil......normally something is left over from past visitors.

“a perfect get away from it all”

We had a wonderful stay at Alt Dubh having had a week here with friends.
The cottage enjoys a spectacular setting overlooking a lochan and with the sea visible through the rocky hillside beyond.
The peace and tranquility was interrupted only by the sight and sound of the eagles which were regular visitors overhead throughout our stay.
The bedrooms afforded us very comfortable accommodation and if anyone needed a few zzzz's in the day( or in the evening whilst awaiting a meal or indeed sleeping it off !) then the recliner sofa in the lounge added to the comfort on offer.

The kitchen and bathroom are very basic, but everything you need is provided though we would recommend that you take plenty of provisions. dried foods etc, as the secluded position of the house means you can't just nip to the local shop if you run out of milk!.....

the hot tub and sauna are wonderful and having spent most of our days out of doors, sightseeing, walking, boat trip (Recommend Seatrek we had a great trip out to the sea stacks) this was a fabulous facility to return to.

the cottage does have TV but only to play DVD's ( with a selection provided to choose from although we did take some of our own), we did not feel inclined to watch anything and did not miss the TV at all, far too much fun to be had just oozing in the glorious hot water or sauna to ease away the day, and the multi fuel stoves in both the lounge and dining room offered a lovely warm ambience to the house.

We considered that the Driveway access to the house although ok was rather difficult to negotiate a big car at the top. The owners did explain this and offered an alternative parking option at the bottom of the driveway however, this does still leave you with rather a steep driveway to walk up to the house, therefore I would not recommend it for anyone who might have mobility issues.....

overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Lewis, and Harris is a must see.

Thank you Linda & Lee we will certainly recommend Alt Dubh to our friends.

“Beautiful location, with an equally beautiful cottage”

Stayed for 4 nights, arrived in the dark, and pretty much straight to a very comfortable bed. Woke to a gorgeous view, in a fantasic location. Cottage well furnished and equally well equipped. Following a day out returned to the cottage, lit the fire and went to the jewel in the crown, in the outbuilding is a spa. A large hot tub, sauna and shower. all in all a fantastic location, well appointed cottage and the hot tub with a view!
