After much anticipation and waiting, having watched the refurb of this Icon of Linlithgow over the last year or so we visited the week before Christmas. From my own personal experience, opening at this time of the year is exceptionally difficult to get right. It takes time to get service practice right and to develop a sense of identity for the restaurant. There are always small snags which always happen, but these are magnified at this stressful time of year. The food was good, not brilliant yet, but promising for the future. Service was attentive but unpracticed, multiple servers trying to take same order without knowing some one had already taken it. Couldn't pay by card easily as machine broken. Had to wait ages at bar to pay (big sin for bar service). Overall friendly staff and good food, but not brilliant yet. Good signs for the future and if teething problems are sorted out it looks like this will be brilliant!
