Okay, much of the menu IS PUB grub fare - fish & chips; chicken tikka. But I had salmon hollandaise, and while it wasn't Michelin-star level, it was GOOD. I'd say two cuts+ above standard PUB fare. The presentation WAS excellent, and the vegetables were both fresh and properly prepared. Best of all was the staff. I interacted with 3 of them, and each was friendly, efficient and knowledgeable without being obsequious. Rare in any restaurant but virtually unknown in pubs; BEST wait-staff I've encountered in the UK in 10 years. Decor plays on local legend Mary Queen of Scots, but is appropriate given its setting (near the castle on the tourist route). Good place for a pleasant relaxed meal when you want something better but not expensive. Prices were surprisingly reasonable.
