We spent two nights in a tipee in early August 2012, and we really couldn't fault the campsite.
Sally and Dave who run the campsite are friendly, helpful and on-site for a lot of the time. They meet guests at the ferry and take all the luggage to the site, and drop it back down for you when you're leaving - this made it easy to bring extras like folding chairs which really added to our stay.
The tipee was spotlessly clean, and had lots of space - there was two of us but you could sleep six adults more than comfortably in one. It came with thin camping mattresses, rugs and beanbags.
The shower/toilet block was scrubbed every day, and the place was very well maintained. There's three sinks for washing up and a communal fridge. Disposable bbqs are available to purchase - perfect for the local burgers and sausages Sally and Dave can source for you.
What made the trip for us was the location - it's overlooking Cape Clear's south harbour, and we even sat outside the tipee and saw six dolphins playing in the water beneath us one morning.
It's also just a stroll from the island's two pubs.
There were several families staying at the same time as us, and it really is a family-friendly campsite - I find it hard to imagine rowdy groups fitting in.
As far anyone mentioning creepy-crawlies - well, you are still camping!
