Stayed here last weekend. Parking an issue upon arrival. Check in was quick and friendly. Nice old style hotel. Room was adequate. No bottled water in room for 4 star hotel. Issue with electrical socket hanging from wall. Water in bathroom (Shower) not hot just warm. Bar was nice. Best Guinness ever and good trad music. Breakfast was very nice. All staff we encountered with friendly and helpful. Despite the minor issues I'd have no problem in staying here again.

We had a wonderful relaxing stay at this great hotel. This has been fourth visit and it never fails to impress. The lady on reception at check in and out was such a joy she was such a pleasant person. We stayed two nights b&b and one evening meal. The food in the hotel restaurant is delicious, great choice and great food. We also had food in the bar (The poets corner). This is also outstanding and very good value for money, Irish trad music in the bar is really nice. The bedrooms as always were comfortable, very clean and cosy. The thing I like best about this hotel is the area stretching along to the right from the entrance in the lobby. Here you will find comfy sofas that you melt into. The open fire, reading material and the most relaxing ambience I have ever found in any hotel (we have stayed in many). It is a total chill out experience. Location, Location, Location, Terrific.
Make a visit, you will not be disappointed,

The hotel location is ideal for visiting Ennis shops and pubs as well as County Clare sights such as the Cliffs of Moher and town of Kilkee. Ennis offers a big variety of spots that serve good food and drink, and three are in the hotel, including the Poets Corner pub with traditional Irish music at night. Rooms are clean, quiet and comfortable. Some offer thermostats to regulate heating, and some do not. Bathrooms are well equipped, but shower controls require study and testing before use. Less than 30 minutes from Shannon, the hotel is popular with American coach tours. At times, most patrons in the pub will be touring Americans, often loud in herds, and they may congregate in front of the musicians, shouting to hear each other and ignoring patrons who are present for the music.

I have stayed at the Old Ground on three occasions and this in itself is testament to the hotel, it's location and wonderful staff. On this occasion I resided in room 220. The room was fine however on this occasion I had payed considerably more than previously and was disappointed with the "deluxe room" which it was not. No door on the wardrobe, poor lighting and an outdated bathroom with tiles falling off. In addition there was a shelf over the toilet which is heading south. Stupidly I used the shelf and lost a lovely bottle of flower bomb (€100)to its descending slope. I did not complain but it needs to be reviewed. The reason I did not complain was based on the lovely hard working staff who go out of their way to ensure one has a pleasant stay. On all previous occasions I have enjoyed my stay and will not let this disappointing stay effect my rating. It's strength is its staff.

We were taking a driving trip through western Ireland and was going to spend the day at the Cliffs of Moher. We wanted somewhere close, but also with a nice atmosphere. Boy did we pick a good one. We only spent one night (wish we had decided to spend 2-3). We arrived earlier than planned and the staff could not have been more gracious. We had a nice big room. Furnished with all the amenities. Very clean. This hotel is like stepping back in the '20s when people took pride in their lodgings (both proprietors and guests). Had dinner in the restaurant and it was excellent. It's located right in the city centre so one can just walk around town and go back to the room to relax. If you're in the area this is a must stay.

I spent three nights at the Old Ground Hotel, and it was magical. When we arrived after the 6am flight into Shannon, the bells of the cathedral next door were ringing. A delicious full Irish breakfast was waiting for us. The staff were incredibly welcoming and cheerful. The furnishings were very attractive and the sofas in the lobby so comfortable! I felt right at home the whole time. Can't wait to go back.
