“Quaint Hotel”
Reviewed 19 July 2014

We stayed 2 nights in this lovely quaint hotel. The location is perfect to enjoy Ennis. The hotel has a pub (Poets Corner) as part of the building, where the locals enjoy good food, beverages, and music. The rooms are good size and well appointed. As in all of Ireland, the staff was very friendly and accomodating. You can walk out of the hotel and stroll the scenic streets of Ennis. Our room was on the east side and overlooked the nearby school play area. Room was quiet. There are several sitting areas where you can have tea or "a coffee".

Room Tip: Rooms on the southside overlook the garden and church.

I spent three nights in Ennis and ate in the Poets Corner each night. Live traditional music, busy bar, great food and service. Lovely craft beers, seafood selection is simple but tasty, irish beef burger excellent. Compliments to the excellent bar and floor staff who are courteous and very efficient.

Stayed for 3 nights last month. Very large room which had large bay window (think it was 228) overlooked the garden and church opposite. Bed was the most comfortable I have slept in!! ( I have a real problem with sleeping, so would love to know where the bed linen and pillows come from, so I could invest in some for myself!!) Bathroom was clean and large with very powerful shower! Had dinner in the restaurant one evening and enjoyed it. Breakfast was very good with nice selection. Hotel very clean and all staff were friendly. Ennis is a lovely town and found it a good location for our days out. Would stay again if lucky enough to return to the area.

This has to be the best hotel I have ever stayed at. My daughter recommended it, since she it was the first place she stayed at when she first came to Ennis. We loved the room. Very comfortable. A beautiful view of the garden from our windows. The beds were so comfy. I had the best sleep. The bathroom had a tub. The first bath I had all trip. Ireland's showers are the strongest, but here the pressure was great.
I am definitely starting and ending my future trips to Ireland at this hotel.
You won't be disappointed. Great staff also!

Room Tip: Request the view of the garden.

I stayed here for one night at the end of May. I was travelling solo on business. Staff at reception were super efficient and helpful. The room was on the lower ground floor and a bit lacking natural light, but very had plently of space for working and relaxing. The bed was one of the most comfortable hotel beds I ever slept in - wonderful! Tea and coffee making facilities were good too. I had breakfast in the room (fairly standard) so I didn't see the range of breakfast food on offer.

I tried to book into the restaurant the previous evening but it was booked out - a very good sign for a midweek night! I settled for bar food instead and it was very nice and efficiently served. The bar was very busy but I wasn't made to feel rushed even though I was a solo diner taking up a table for up to four. The hotel is famed for its olde-worlde decor and ambience and clearly is atttracting many visitors from the US and elsewhere. The patrons in the bar appeared to be a mixture of locals and visitors from abroad.

The location is great...it was a nice day when I checked out so I walked from the hotel to the train station..it took a leisurely 15 minutes. If you like shopping, Ennis has some lovely shops, particularly if you are into shoes! There are several really nice shoe shops and boutiques strung along the very narrow streets adjacent to the hotel. Overall, this hotel has a lot going for it.

Enjoyed our stay where our group met to begin our bicycling tour. Lobby has many cosy places to chat and read. But lots of street noises ( there is a constant whistle going off now!) and doors slamming.

Great Location, right in the centre of town. Good atmosphere. Comfortable lounge. It is 3 years since I last stayed at The Old Ground. Many of the staff are still there and have been for years but there used to be a few bad apples who let them down. This is no longer the case and this time round I was really impressed, excellent in all areas, the bar, the reception and the restaurant. They anticipated well and got it right most of the time. The bar service in particular was quick and very efficient. The rooms have been refurbished and they look good with pleasing colour schemes, good temperature, not too hot or too cold. I love the toiletries. The free wifi worked reasonably well. The service dropped at certain times of the day but I did get quite a lot of work done. Another improvement was the food which was imaginative, tasty and piping hot. The portions were huge and excellent value, perhaps a little too big, not complaining but a little wasteful. Minor niggle, a lot of noise from the garden.
