“Superb hotel”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

My wife and I stayed here for a two night break, from booking to departure it was superb. We were upgraded when we arrived, made so welcome. The breakfast was superb on both mornings, and the evening meal was one of the best I have ever had.. I would highly recommend a stay there. We will be back for sure. I would like to say a big thank you to all concerned. John Browne. ( Cork )

Room Tip: We were in a junior suite , was very good.

On Saturday,August 16th 2014, we had wonderful meal in the hotel restaurant The menu was was full of choice, the food - delicious and the service - excellent. The hotel staff were warm, friendly, helpful and completely engaged with us.

The hotel is in the town centre, allowing us stroll along the streets and we enjoyed a drink in a quaint pub, while listening traditional music and people chatting (uninterrupted by television,!)

The bedroom and en suite were both spotless. Breakfast was served in a most delightful dining room and once again, the food was superb. The standard of service was second to none and yet this hotel (and Ennis Town) have kept their " old world charm". We really had a great weekend.

PF.

Stayed for one night on 15/08/2014 with my wife who is disabled in room 519 one of the disabled rooms. I couldn't fault it bar the fact that there was only one chair in the room. When my wife was out of the wheelchair there was nowhere for me to sit bar the bed. Having said that from the moment we walked in the door the staff were fantastic there was a ramp put down straight away and left down for us.Room was fine open plan wet room style bathroom well equipped for the disabled also right in the heart of town. We didn't dine as we had eaten en route just a late sandwich to the room at 11.50 for two and 4 euro per person for breakfast to the room.Would definitely stay again wonderful trad session with Blackie O'Connell wonderful uillean piper and friends which was our main reason to book.We did fill in the room comment card and mentioned the chair which could well have been a mistake.

Room Tip: 519 on the fifth floor for disabled good choice good close lift access.

We stayed here a few weeks ago and the hotel is lovely. Its full of history and charactor, and is kept immaculate. There is a bar for evenings and evn traditional music was playing while we were there. The staff are all very helpful and the dinner was excellent. The car park is big, but could be bigger, except the central location makes that one tricky...Thanks again and see ye next year!

If you're planning a trip to co Clare, Ennis is a great base. And within Ennis, it's hard to beat the Old Ground for location, right in the middle of town. Been here a few times, it's not perfect, but we love it. Had a family room for myself and two kids (14 & 11). Room was spacious, and clean. Staff good. Breakfast was ok (not great), but good enough. It's an old hotel, it's not the best you'll have ever stayed it, but it has something about it which is hard to put your finger on. Me and my kids will go back!

Room Tip: If going for family room - 509 was fab

The Old Ground has a lot of history and charm, good dining and pub facilities, and spacious, comfortable rooms. It is an easy walk to numerous restaurants, pubs and shops and an easy drive to many western Irish venues.

This is a lovely old hotel with a long, and at times confusing history - all of which adds to it charms! (They found dungeons underneath it?? ; p) We had a lovely large room - not expected - complete with a window seat, massive wardrobes, two double beds, and the wonderful 'feel' of an old mansion converted to a hotel. Yes, the carpet was a little worn but everything was clean and comfortable. (If people are looking for something "like home" - stay there, and don't try to experience things in other parts of the world) Loved the little perks of buttery biscuits with the tea and coffee in our room. There were several beautiful patrons' lounges where you could sit and read a book, have tea or coffee, visit with friends, or just sit and soak it all in. It was a lovely breakfast in an crisp neat dining area. The pub looked very promising although we didn't visit it., The hotel is close to everything in Ennis - lovely walks to be had. I would happily stay at this hotel again
