“A stop off en route to Shannon”
Reviewed 31 March 2014

I meet with my husband after travelling by bus from Kildare. The bus stopped outside the door, so it was convenient to meet. We had a drink and sandwiches. Bar " Preachers Pub" is amazing. Staff friendly and the sandwiches were very good and not very expensive. Unfortunately we did not have time to stay longer, but would certainly consider staying here if we are visiting Ennis again.

Dear Cathy D,

Thank you for your positive review, the new hourly service from Ennis to Dublin via Kildare is proving very successful. We are delighted to accommodate many of the passengers from the coach in Preachers Pub &Legends Restaurant. Hopefully on your next visit you may even get to stay the night with us and savour some of the wonderful sights and boutiques that Ennis has to offer.

Kind regards,

Geraldine Minogue

We stayed here on the recommendation of a lady in the cafe at Aillwee cave. Friendly and family run was how she portrayed it so we decided to have a look. From the start the staff could not have been more helpful. Having sorted out the rooms we, half jokingly, said that we'd only come for the Craic. The receptionist, Claire, immediately pointed us in the direction of Brogan's and even offered to ring the bar to see if there was live music that night. We did indeed look around the town that (very wet) night in a hunt for a Mussel meal but in the event found what we wanted back at the hotel in Preachers Pub. The hotel is on the site of, and bits of it were part of, a convent and this theme is carried into Preachers. It's a cross between a pub and a church, if such a thing is possible. Breakfast is in the Legends restaurant and in our case was served both mornings by an absolutely charming Asian lady who simply couldn't do enough! Was the coffee too strong/to weak, was the toast done enough/ not enough? In either case she needn't have worried, everything was fine. The rooms were spacious, clean an comfortable but, be aware, if your room overlooks the car park then Bus Eirann start their services at 04:30, or at least they park their busses with engines running outside the hotel from this time. That aside, this is a wonderful hotel and if I'm ever back in Ennis this is where I'll stay.

We stayed at the Temple Gate Hotel for 2 nights in December 2013. We checked in early, and checked out the visitor center next door and had lunch in the hotel pub at the suggestion of the front desk. The room was spacious and comfortable, and a nice change of pace from the b&b's we had been staying in. Breakfast was nice, but simple. The real stand out for us was the staff. We stayed in Ennis with the intention of driving to the Cliffs of Moher, which had been closed due to weather during our stay. The front desk staff knew we were hoping to make that trip, and gave us updates throughout our stay. While exploring the city in the evening, we were stopped by a hotel staff member who recognized us just to check and make sure that we were finding everything ok. We would stay at the Temple Gate Hotel again, and would not hesitate to recommend it to our family and friends.

The staffs understand guest service and we were made to feel like VIP guests at every occasion. Everything is taken to the next level at this hotel.
The food was excellent and the service great. This was something really special worth every penny. The food, was divine, the settings, very exclusive and the staff brilliant, we all chose different meals, and we all loved every dish.
We are delighted to know that you felt like “VIP’s” and that the team exceeded your expectations with their recommendations provided to you.
I wish more hotels were held to this level of service and luxury for a more than a bargain price.
If you are going to Ennis, do not miss this hotel!!!

This is a place that would appeal to many people, the function room is the old chapel of the original monastery/convent. The rooms are spacious, very clean, and very comfortable. There is a restaurant and a lounge/bar on the premises and the hotel is situated in the heart of lovely historic Ennis. My only disappointment was in the attention of staff. The receptionist staff was very helpful and friendly. On the second day my friend and I returned to our room looking forward to relaxing only to find beds unmade, dirty cups sitting on the desk, and the bathroom uncleansed and towels wet on the ground. We rang the reception twice and still nothing was done about it. If you care about this sort of thing, then be warned. Also, in the dining room, we had to go and ask for someone to take our order for breakfast after we had already drank our tea and ate our toast, then finally we were able to order our fry. But when I went to get some jam someone took away our half eaten bread, and tea etc... they were very apologetic but the same happened to us at the diner table, our food was almost taken away (my friend's was) while we were still eating. None of this is terrible but I felt that I had to write this in my review as I've never experienced this before. It is nothing that a good staff meeting cannot rectify. So I will say - give it another chance, it may have been a temporary problem, and I would still recommend this hotel as good value and a pleasant place to stay, very convenient to everything.

Temple Gate is a lovely hotel right in the centre of Ennis. We spent a lovely weekend here and the hotel was very comfortable, clean and central location was so handy. It was a convent way back in the day, but has obviously had some renovations/changes since then. The Preachers Bar has high ceilings just like the convent would have had I presume. Then the Great Hall, where I presume conferences/functions would be held is where the Church part used to be. It is quite atmospheric, I could imagine church services being held here all those years ago. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and just the general ambience was very relaxing. Our bedroom was ample and the bathroom had a very good power shower over the bath. Tea and coffee facilities and complimentary bottled waters were refreshed daily. I loved the little jar of lollies provided also! I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Ennis, which is itself a good basis for a tour of the local Co Clare area.

The Temple Gate Hotel is located in the heart of Ennis within walking distance of places to eat and shop. The hotel is very nice and there is a pub and restaurant on site. The hotel staff was very nice and we totally enjoyed our two night stay. The pub and restaurant serves very good food at a reasonable price.
