We stayed here while on holidays, and this hotel is very central in the town. We were able to walk easily around Ennis, and it is a great location for visiting places around clare. The staff were very helpful, and the room was excellent.

We stayed here with a group tour, so we didn't choose it ourselves and I'm not sure we would have if we were traveling on our own. The location was fantastic, right in the center of Ennis so going out and exploring was easy. The lobby is pretty and interesting looking but that's the only thing that's interesting. The rooms are very plain and on the small side. There is no air which I know is the norm in Ireland but we did stay on a rare warmer night and I was hot in the night. The beds in our rooms were hard and the pillows were uncomfortable. I will say the rooms were very clean which was the best thing to say about them. The breakfast in the morning was okay - not a lot of selection. I was happy to move on to the next hotel on the list.

Recently stayed in the Temple Gate and found the staff very friendly and helpful as is the service. We dined in the restaurant and the food was very good and reasonably priced. The room was very comfortable and also had wifi. The hotel is located in the middle of Ennis and within walking distance of everything. There is a hotel car park also. I would recommended the Temple Gate to anyone wishing to stay in Ennis.

Writing this review on behalf of my husband who stayed here from the 1-4 Aug in a group of 18. He states the staff were superb, couldn't do enough for you, real Irish hospitality. Most in the group Irish or of Irish decent, so they real know their Irish breakfast. The Irish breakfast is superb, plenty of choice, buffet style. The room attendants were really lovely he said, with Argan oil toiletries (good quality) in bathroom. Room was spotless. Tea & coffee making facilities in room. Hotel is in a great location, in the centre of town. They would defiantly use this hotel again.

My wife and I stayed at Temple Gate on 14 & 15 June 2014. This hital sits on the site or a former convent. One of the convent buildings was rehabilitated into hotel accommodations, in company with a number of newer additions for such uses as dining. In an untouched, original photograph, the approximately 100-year old brick convent structure was completely reconfigured to relatively modern room accommodations. Interior spaces here, both new and old, exuded charm and history. The pub rooms are elegant as is the dining room. The older function room, possibly located in what had been the convent chapel, seemed seldom used as it had a slight musty feel.

We enjoyed our meals at this hotel, especially when combined with some of Ireland's legendary beers and ales. This hotel's location in the heart of Ennis was most welcome and helpful as well. Everything in the town was in easy walking distance. As with other of our Irish accommodations, we found the hotel staff very friendly and willing to assist. In fact, the most challenging matter we faced was finding the hotel and its parking, since we were unfamiliar with the surroundings and we were driving ourselves. An errant ruen into a nearby parking lot found us in fron of the police station, where the officer on duty came outside with me and pointed me in the right direction: how very gracious!

Room Tip: We had a room on the backside of the hotel, and a nearby pub/restaurant had tables in an alley a few...

Stayed two nights here and it was nice. While not air conditioned, we did have to deal with outside noises (talking, buses, etc.) because the window needed to remain opened. There were nice dinner options each night and everything was in walking distance. I did enjoy the uniqueness of the hotel with the old stained glass windows and architecture.
