“Beautiful, comfortable, clean”
Reviewed 18 June 2012

My friend and I stumbled on this gem in Ennis. Theory, the owner, was very courteous, helpful and she made sure thatour stay was comfortable. After a long drive, it was heavenly just to relax in a spacious and spotlessly clean room. We could lounge in the front room and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. Breakfast was delicious. Highly recommended.

We just spent 3 days at Mary Keane's Grey Gables and had a wonderful time. Mary was very accommodating, gave great suggestions on where to eat and visit. She recommended a driver to the Loophead Lighthouse and West Clare RR which we thoroughly enjoyed. Her breakfasts was good and filling. The rooms very pleasant and clean. We enjoyed Ennis as a jump-off to the Clare County tourist attractions. The town was quaint and charming with everything within walking distance of the Grey Gables. Less touristy than Killarney and Dingle but with the charm of an old Irish town. The food was fabulous in town as well. One of the advantages of staying at the Grey Gables is its location to town and the bus and train station - 2 minute walks. Her prices were very reasonable.

Room Tip: Our room was in the back and very quiet.

My wife and I just finished a two day stay at Grey Gables. Great value, great location and Mary is a wonderful proprietor. She helped plan our outIngs and made super recommendations for inning and Irish music. We have stayed in eleven accommodations in the U.K. And Ireland on this trip and this spot ranked right up there.

Room Tip: If available ask for room four..

We stayed one night in Ennis and booked a room at Grey Gables. The biggest problem I had was with the smell inside the house. It has a musty old-house sort of smell which isn't great if you suffer from allergies as I do, because I suspect the smell is mildew. The shower was tiny and had a bifold door that folded into the shower to open (think old-time phone booth), so it's good we aren't large people because I could barely squeeze myself into a corner of the shower in order to open the door. The mattress was old and lumpy and my husband said he felt a spring poking him in the back all night, and the coverlet looked quite old also. Wifi would only work in the lounge.

The breakfast room was very nice, sunny with a high ceiling. There are no buffet choices for breakfast, except for a small bowl of whole fruits on the table. Cereal is offered and served in the small cardboard box in a bowl. Mary did offer some fresh sliced melon to us, which was nice. We opted to try the potato waffles for breakfast. I was expecting a regular sort of waffle that was made with some potato in the dough, but what we received was very similar to a large French fry with holes in it, and that's exactly how it tasted. Not good at all.

Mary gave us a pub recommendation for dinner and the meal there was good. One thing we noticed was the shops all had metal grates pulled over their window after closing, something we hadn't noticed elsewhere in Ireland.

We stayed @ the Grey Gables B&B which is only an easy 20 minute drive from Shannon airport. Mary, the owner is a nice, friendly woman who makes you feel very welcome. The rooms are clean, comfortable and Mary makes a great breakfast. There is a room to make yourself coffee or tea and a quaint sitting room. The B&B is a short walk into town, which is charming & friendly. My family has stayed here in the past & we were not disappointed with our 2 night stay there. It is easy to find and they have parking on the premises, which is a bonus in Ireland. My daughter and I spent two nights recently with Mary at Grey Gable
s. The accommodation was comfortable, the location very central and convenient, and Mary's hospitality was warm and helpful. Highlights include the sunny breakfast room where conversation flows easily between fellow travellers, sometimes aided by introductions by our hostess. Would thoroughly recommend Grey Gables B& B.

Grey Gables is within easy walking distance of the train station/bus depot. The rooms are generous in size, it is quiet and the breakfasts are superb. Mary is most helpful on how to get around in and near Ennis. We had no car (I would not dream of driving on what is for us the wrong side of the road) and Mary set us up with a qualified driver at a reasonable rate for a day trip to the Cliffs of Mohr and the Barren (sp?). Ennis is wonderful and we found there the traditional Irish music we were looking for. This music we could not find in Dublin. On our next trip to Ennis we will surely stay with Mary at Grey Gables.
