arrived for the longweekend with my 2 children check in was fast and friendly were allocated our room on the 2nd floor went to take the lift with 2 siutcases to find out it was broken.two staff passed by said hello but no offer of help so had to carry the bags up the two flights of stairs thumbs down straight away.went to the room to find a double bed and two singles which you wouldnt swing a cat this was my large family room which i had asked for.
we decided to head downstairs for a bite to eat bar staff very friendly food was good.sat morning we went for breakfast two young girls working in the breakfast room gave us our table help ur self we were told so we did when the breakfast was fininshed then we were asked if we would like tea or coffee sorry should you not get this with your breakfast i asked the girl replied you should have asked earlier if you wanted it.the hotel was full come saturday night hen and stag parties carrying on with no respect to families staying in the hotel went to bed to get away from this.with the babies fast asleep we were suddenly awoken by the fire alarm at 3 oclock in the morning looked out the door other guests with children on the landing not knowing what to do.rang the reception we were told if was a false alarm ok went to go back asleep alarm goes off again at this time half of the hotel are outside half inside not knowing what do do.no staff to be seen assuring the guests that everything is ok false alarm was the word everybody was saying ok try to sleep again.the alarm goes off for a third time the children awake fully at this time crying their eyes out so i goes down stairs to reception to ask whats going on was told that someone in the stag party had broken one of the fire alarms god help him if i had got my hands on him.so back to the room just putting the head down it the fire alarm goes off again so at his stage im really annoyed still to my surprise no no no staff on any of the floors reasuring the guests that everything is ok.so eventually the alarm was fixed with the kids wide awake we suffered them still crying till the early hours of the morning eventually they fell asleep @ 7 in the morning.wrecked for the day.
the following morning approched the manager who was very nice he told us that the lad you broke the alarm was arrested by the gardai hope they gave him a good kicking beause had i got hold of him i would have kicked the life ouuta him.as the day went on we had planned to do a few trips with the children but we were too tired so most of our saturday was spent in bed.
sunday was a great day and ths dubs won aswell to make it even better.
as we checked out on monday morning we approched the manager about our experience and had a few words with him very nice guy he was but i was totally disatisfied with my stay and would not recommend this any famlies or anyone looking for a relaxing weekend as they cater for stag and hen parties

Dear Guest,

I refer to your recent stay at the West County Hotel and I wish to thank you for detailing your invaluable feedback to us.

Firstly, please accept our sincere apologies to you for the considerable disappointment caused to you, during your stay at the hotel. As you may recall the hotel was extremely busy on that particular weekend, and the sounding of the alarm at such an hour was most unfortunate and regrettable. As you correctly indicated it was thankfully a false alarm which nevertheless must be fully investigated reset and in this instance damage repaired.

I am very disappointed to learn that you were not offered assistance with your luggage when you needed it and indeed the service which you received at breakfast is not that which we wish to be associated with nor is it one that we will allow to continue.

I do hope that this experience did not spoil your entire stay and that you might consider a return visit to the West County Hotel. Should you be considering such a visit please contact me directly as I would greatly welcome the opportunity to make some amends to you and to demonstrate that what you experienced recently has not been allowed to continue.

Once again, please accept my sincere apologies to you and indeed our thanks to you, for bringing the matter to our attention.

Sincerely,

Brian Harrington
Executive General Manger

Arrived at the hotel on the friday evening of the june bank holiday weekend.
Check in was prompt and staff very friendly.
We did have a slight problem with the bedroom we were allocated but we were very promptly allocated a different room and received helf moving our luggage by a very nice porter,it was a very hot evening and he offered us the use of a fan which we gratefully accepted.

An evening meal was part of our package, when we went to the restaurant we were greeted by a very friendly lady and shown to our table, there was a good varied choice on the menu, service was absolutely brilliant and the food was OUT OF THIS WORLD!!

We stopped by the bar later that night to be greeted by a very friendly barman,he chatted away to us while efficently serving guests.
The lady that served us in the restaurant then appeared behind the bar,i commented to the barman what a fantastic worker she was and so dedicated to her job to which he replied with a laugh that she was indeed his good lady wife!!

The next morning breakfast was buffet, there was any amount of fooe to choose from and plenty of it..it tasted truly delicious. There was a lot of guests and the waitresses were very busy but coped marvellously with the crowd.

We dined at the hotel again that evening using the a la carte menu..
MY GOD!!! The plates of food we got were unbelievable!! Top class food, top class service once again.
The lady that was serving us took a few minutes to ask us were we enjoying our stay to which we replied yes and during the conversation i briefly mentioned the slight problem with our room upon arrival but told her the staff were very efficient and obliging in giving us a new room...
When we went to pay for our meal she refused to accept any payment as she said she had spoken to the manager and he insisted we have the meal by way of an apology for any inconvience.
This we thought was VERY generous and totally unnecessary but much appreciated.

Breakfast next morning was yet again very, very busy but plenty of top class food provided and great service.

We dined in the restaurant again that evening and once again the food was fab!!
The lady who had served us was gone on her holidays that day but the staff were still very efficient in their work.

To that lady,Ann, i would like to say THANK YOU!! you are worth your weight in gold, you are what makes it worth while going away for...i hope you and Pat(the barman)have a lovely holiday.I would also like to say thank you to the hotel manager, and give a little mention to a very efficient waitress Geraldine. And the chefs deserve a mention too, well done!

Regarding the leisure facilitys, fab gym!! great pool, sauna and jucuzzi brill but steam room lacking steam.lol.

I definetly will return to this hotel.

My husband and I stayed at the West County recently. Yes the hotel is a bit old, and needs some refurbishment, but it's not bad. Our room was clean, and the cleaning staff seemed very willing to oblige with towels etc.
I had to ask for an iron, which was brought promptly. The television had to be changed, but again was dealt with promptly. It was pity that there seemed to be no details of hotel facilities, and times of church masses/services which we had found helpful previously. Probably just an oversight.
There was some noise at night with people talking and doors banging.
We had an evening meal which was as good as an top restaurant. Breakfast was self-service but was delicious.
The pool was busy but a nice asset.
Overall we enjoyed our stay, and really appreciated the friendly staff.

Where do I start? I am not a high maintenance person, just so you know! Hotel check in was quick and painless. We were given a family room that seemed to take AGES to get to, up lifts and down very long dingy, dark corridors. When we got to the room the size was adequate, enough beds for all of us. However, the room looked like it was in need of a good cleaning and still had a 1970's look to the room. The bin in the bathroom (the lid) had some sort of mysterious yellow/brown stains on the top of it...YUCK! The carpets looked dirty. As it was a warm day, we went to open the window and it barely opened a crack- not enough for a breeze. Didn't have a great view but thought that was okay- until it got dark and we had an ENORMOUS street light or flood light that shined ever so brightly into the room. We had to keep curtains closed- therefore no air getting in. WAIT- there is MORE. Went to breakfast in the morning only to find out that there were NO BOWLS, NO CUTLERY, NO BROWN BREAD......staff seemed disorganised and chaotic. Since our hotel package came with an evening meal we decided to give the restaurant a go at dinner (certainly it wouldn't be a repeat of breakfast we thought). We were seated at a table (actually the one we sat at during breakfast). However, when I looked at the table, it had crumbs all over the table, food on the floor UNDER the table (FROM BREAKFAST OR LUNCH). I showed the server she looked at the table and moved us to another table. The food was nice but just looking around the restaurant and cutlery, everything was in need of a good cleaning!

Walking into the lounge area near hotel reception there is a public computer for hotel guests. The desk the computer was on and all around it was covered in dust, it was shocking. Trust me, you could see the dust everywhere in this hotel- there is a lot of woodwork and it looks like it is never cleaned.

The beds are not very comfortable either, they are actually very hard!! The television barely worked in the room- the channels were fuzzy and not much of a selection. This hotel is like walking into a time warp and being trapped in a hotel in about 1973!!!
Lastly, at approximately 9:00am on the morning in which we were due to check out we had some UNEXPECTED guests ENTER our room while we were still lying in bed...... They were American Military men in UNIFORM!!! They had been given the key to OUR ROOM by mistake! It happened twice that morning! It wasn't their fault but I was NOT happy with the hotel staff. When I told the women at reception they quickly blamed their accommodation manager and stated that she had given these men a key to our room in error. Hardly an apology!!

I would NEVER in a million years stay at this hotel again. It is a shame too as my husband grew up in Ennis and we frequently visit the area.

We are very disappointed!
