Owner description: Fota Wildlife Park is Cork's most visited Tourist Attraction and has been awarded best family day out in Cork and Munster. The Park is set on 70 acres on the scenic Fota Island in the heart of Cork Harbour only 15 minutes from Cork City (top 10 in the best cities to visit in the Lonely Planet guide's 'Best in Travel 2010').The park is not like an ordinary zoo; here you can come face to face with free roaming animals & birds from all parts of the world. So whether it's a kangaroo that hops in front of you or a ring tailed lemur which jumps down from a tree, each visit is sure to bring its own fantastic memories. In addition to the wonderful array of free roaming animals, visitors also have the opportunity to see highly endangered species such as the Rothschild giraffe, European Bison, Lion Tailed Macaque and Scimitar Horned Oryx, most of them without the obstacle of fenced-in exhibits. This is the most spectacular aspect of Fota Wildlife Park, and is the reason you'll want to spend a full day exploring Ireland's Wildest Attraction.

“Very Expensive”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 August 2013

I found Fota to be very expensive considering the state of the country and the fact that people are finding it harder to have the money for days out. For two adults and one child who was just 4 it was 28 euros. Felt it was a bit steep especially if you have a big family. This is before you buy anything inside the park. We bought two coffees and a sandwich between us. It was a tenner. We enjoyed the park but the prices could be reduced. Still saying all this the park was fairly packed and you do need to supervise kids constantly in the play parks. I would say the huge crowds were due to a lot of people have family /seasonal tickets. My advice is bring a picnic as the coffee shop is a complete rip off 4.50 for one sandwich that was dry. I can understand why some people would be angry at the 3 euro charge on the way out and you have to have the exact coins. You certainly wouldn't be going every day if you didn't have a seasonal ticket. It is way too expensive. The animals are great fun and the monkeys were very funny but if you were there first time you might be expecting say Elephants or other animals but there aren't the same animals as Dublin zoo. It is enjoyable but the prices are over the top. The only thing I suppose is you can stay as long as you want.

“The children really love fota”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2013

We are local, so we go to Fota a lot as members. We try to go early in the morning, or late in the evening to avoid the crowds. The play areas are nice, bit more suited to older children, we have a toddler.

The main thing we like in fota is the animals that roam around outside enclosures. That's great fun for children to encounter on paths as they walk around.

Highly recommend going over to fota house afterwards for tea and cakes. It's walking distance, and the gardens are fab.

“taken by surprise”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2013

We visited this wildlife park on a reccommendation on our way home from holiday. We wondered why so many youngsters were hanging around the entrance. It transpired that they were awaiting the arrival of Jedward with whom we found ourselves sharing a carriage on the mini train which goes round the site, pursued by screaming girls. Really, this attraction is over-hyped. it has few animals and it has a weary air about it. We did not stay very long and wouldn't go again.

“Good day out”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 July 2013

There is more of an emphasis on proximity to the animals and the domestic fowl all roam free. There is currently 30th birthday celebrations and the kids will love the Bosco puppet show. Not by any extent a comparison to a major international zoo but a different experience and a lovely day out.

“Fota Wildlife Park is great fun”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 June 2013

My wife and I decided to visit FOTA while in Ireland in May, 2013. The train ride from Cork was on 15 minutes through beautiful scenery and the train stop was right at one of the park entrances. We absolutely enjoyed walking through the park and seeing the animals up close and in an almost natural environment. We both think it is worth the time, and the money to see this attraction.
