“Nice stay at Anam Cara”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 May 2013

The best things about this place are the location and the breakfast.

My mother and godmother stayed here for 4 nights when they came to visit me in Cork. They had a front room (#4) with two twin beds. The room was rather small with a tiny television that did not work and the beside drawers will full of a previous guest's trash. Also, the trash bin was not emptied during their entire 4-night stay, despite its miniscule size. When my dad came to stay a month later, he had the same room. The TV did not work and they had simply pushed the twin beds together to form a "double" bed. That's fine as he was on his own, but that sort of thing wouldn't be very nice for a couple.

That said, the owners were quite friendly and went out of their way to make sure my Dad got breakfast on the two mornings that he was up and out of B&B before breakfast was technically served. Breakfast is in the small cafe attached to the B&B, which is very well decorated and provides a lovely ambiance. Portions are generous and the food is very nice, as is the coffee. The location is quite good, too, with a very short walk to UCC and about 10 minutes to the city center. There is a bus that runs right by the hotel and goes into the city center if you don't want to/aren't able to walk.

We stayed at the Anam Cara B & B for one week 4th - 11th May 2013, and were very happy with the excellent service, food, and warm & friendly welcome by Aideen & Tim and staff, There is plenty of parking around the rear of the property, The room was of a high standard with a comfortable bed, which is always welcome after visiting the beautiful sights around this part of Ireland. The bathroom was always kept clean and the shower being of a good size, We took several walks into the City Centre (10 min walk) which is very lively at all times of day. Aideen & Tim were very helpful with advising us where to visit on our time there. We ate in the Serendipity Café next door, and had an extremely good meal, the Chef certainly knows how to please, and the waiting staff were very efficient, We would certainly recommend this B & B. Thanks for making our holiday enjoyable

We stayed here for 3 nights and booked a room at the back of the house (No 8). The room was quite small with a tiny bathroom but had everything we needed. Parking is at rear of the house.
The room was clean and we didn't hear any noise from the street. It's a short walk to town along the river, so very convenient location.
The breakfast in the morning is served at the cafe just beside the B&B. Very highly recommanded!
We would definetly come back!

Room Tip: Room No 8 is at the back of the house

Three nites at this B&B. Owners very accommodating. Room was adequate with a few quirky features. Cord to coffee/tea pot was short and plugged in to fixture near floor. But dinners at adjoining Serendipity Cafe were fabulous. We ate there twice and flavors, textures and presentation were top notch. Among our selections were monkfish, hake, mussels and steak were all excellent. Warm calamari appetizer was particularly good accompanied by finely diced peppers and caperberries. Even if you don't stay here, at least one dinner while visiting Cork is suggested!

Found this B&B just outside the city centre. The owners are really friendly and helpful, made us feel at home. We ate at their fabulous little restaurant next door Cafe Serendipity, which served beautiful food. We would recommend this place to stay and will certainly stay here again next time we're in the city. The rooms are fairly large and it's had a massive bed, very comfortable with good pillows (I do hate flat or hard pillows! ) Nice big, powerful shower. Breakfast was the best we've had for a while, with a good varied selection. Off street parking behind the B&B was a plus.
Thanks Tim and Aideen!

We stayed for one night during our holiday around Ireland. It's a great solution to visit Cork, mainly if travelling by car. It has got a car parking just in front and it's at a walking distance from the city center. The room was very confortable. Good breakfast, served in the restaurant just beside, run by the same owners and accessible directly from the house. They offer a variaty of choices.

Got a single room for 1 night on the first floor.
Comfortable and big bed, clean and warm room, perfect position just 10 minutes walking from the city centre, zone is quiet and I didn't hear any noise coming from the other rooms. Free and safe parking provided on the back of the B&B. I didn't have the chance to try the breakfast because I woke up too late and I had to go. I'll be back for sure next time I'm staying in Cork.
