This pub really is a hidden treasure. The atmosphere is always wonderful, be it packed to the gills or half empty. Great fun to be had on major sporting occasions when crammed in with fellow sports fans. They also do a deal with The Fish Wife fish and chip shop on big sports days - a pint and fish/chicken/veggie supper for €10. Great little place.

With the advent of the super pub , the rock pub, the dance pub The Idle Hour still retains an authentic feel in the centre of Cork city. It is unpretentious and delivers what most people want these days in pubs which is good music (at a respectable volume) all live sports and a friendly staff and clientele.

When you enter the pub you can tell from its simple clean surroundings that it will tick all the boxes for you. It is within easy walking distance of the city centre on Corks quays and is hugely popular with the 25-75 age group.

What makes it stand out is the banter at the counter and the fact that whether you are looking to read the paper in the corner or engage in a discussion on the latest sporting event you will find someone to talk with. If the bar is quiet the bar staff will gladly oblige.

The Idle Hour is one of a reducing number of pubs in Corks city centre that I enjoy frequenting and spending time and I recommend that you do too.

We love the idle hour. Great pub a few minutes walk from the centre of the city. Very busy at weekends with great music.

The idle hour is a crazy little bar, off the beaten track, down near the docks on the way to Blackrock. Great atmosphere, good music and never fails to disappoint as the night gathers momentum and next thing you're dancing on the tables til closing time." A Mad gaff", as they say in Cork, boy!
