“Cork at it's best”
Reviewed 15 July 2014

We had a great time at the hotel. It's an excellent location if you are wanting to be in the heart of the city. Our room was a good size, comfortable but slightly warm (no aircon) at night. The staff were very attentive and no shortage if interesting visitors willing to stop and chat - full of oversees visitors. The hotel would be high on my list if returning to cork, with the English Market, main shopping areas and restaurants just minutes away.

A great hotel in the centre of the city with secure pariking nearby. Clean and tidy with very friendly and helpful staff. Also a great bar with a good buzz, they have a super coffee cafe at the front of the hotel looking out onto the South Mall. Great for a short stay. Ideally placed in the centre of the city.

I travel down to Cork regularly for work, most times I stay here and always happy with my stay. The rooms are spacious and clean. Go for the Superior bedroom if you're looking for that little extra space. Bedding is cosy and great blackout curtains if what you'd like to get is a great night sleep. Staff are always professional and friendly, room service very quick too!
Only downside I could feedback on would be the car parking facilities as these are off-site. Not ideal if you're carrying a large amount of items however it isn't that far away either, approx 10min walk. You are allowed to park temporarily on the loading bay straight outside of the hotel, so handy to bring luggage out and check-in before parking the car.
The Hotel is in an ideal location, close to all amenities and shopping district. ATM just a street away.
All in all I would most definitely recommend the Hotel to others.

Third City in Ireland, first unhappy hotel stay.
List in order of observation, not importance:

1) No designated area to unload baggage. Front of hotel is reserved for buses and taxis. Hotel is on a busy street and this caused a big problem for us. (If you pass the hotel, expect a 6-7 minute re-route to get you back around to the front. A real nightmare!)

2) No parking. No Valet. Garage is 4 blocks away across the river at 10 Euros a day.

3) Only 1 small elevator to service all guests.

4) No Air conditioning. (a fan is provided, but is no where near enough) You can crack a window open 1 inch to aid in air flow.

5) Separate cold/hot faucets in sink. The shower, however, has a standard European combined water flow unit.

6) No refrigerator.

7) No ice machine (desk will supply upon request, however)

8) No safe in room.

9) Room service goes only until 9:45 pm. No late night options.

10) NO HAIR DRYER!!!!!

As we booked this via a travel agent as part of a 12 day vacation I am not sure of the exact price we paid for this particular hotel, but whatever it was it was too much. Look around if you enjoy amenities.

Dear Lee Anne B,

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us at the Imperial Hotel. I was most dissapointed to read that you did not fully enjoy your stay with us and I would like to take this opportunity to explain the following:

1. There is a drop off area which is especially reserved for guests to pull in and drop off / collect their luggage before going to / from the car park.

2. As we are a historic hotel loacted in the centre of Cork city we cannot provide onsite car parking. We offer guests a discounted rate of €9 per night in a secure car park about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. We also provide valet parking on request to guests, this should have been offered at check in.

3. As we are a historic hotel we have a total number of 3 lifts for guests to access the various areas within the hotel.

4. Regarding the air conditioning, this is a point which I will take onboard. It is a very large capital investment to instal air conditioning in this historic building but I will certinely see what we can do for future guests.

5. In Ireland most of the sinks have a seperate cold and hot tap in the sink in the ensuite. The newer more modern hotel would have a more modern type of fitting.

6. Here at reception we have fridges available on request for guests use, this could have been provided for your use in your hotel bedroom if we were aware that you had requested one.

7. Ice is provided from South's bar.

8. Safety deposit boxes are provided at reception, again these are available on a daily basis for guest use.

9. Our room service menu is avaialble daily until 10.00pm offering a varied selection of hot and cold menu items.

10. A hair dryer is provided in the drawer in the dressing table in each bedroom with our superior bedrooms offering a salon type of hair dryer.

I would like to thank you for taking the time to highlight the issues you experienced during your stay with us and I have taken the opportunity to respond.

I hope that you will consider a return visit to Ireland and Cork and the Imperial Hotel.

Thanking you,

Kind regards,
Anne

We found this hotel through the Irish travel website. Whilst we there my wife would be celebrating her 70th birthday so I arranged to have a bottle of champagne and a banner saying ,happy birthday on display for when we arrived. The banner, which I had posted to the hotel was still behind reception desk plus the wine was not in the room.
The reception staff were very apologetic and soon had the banner in place, plus the wine, strawberries and flowers all gratis.
We had also booked a superior room which had a large corner spa bath. Sadly we couldn't use this as the water pressure wasn't good enough to keep up with the leaking plug.
I reported this to the duty manager and she had no hesitation in reducing the charge of the room.

It may appear that we didn't enjoy our stay but this is not true. We were accompanied with two friends and we all enjoyed our stay. The staff were excellent and very friendly The hotel is well situated and very clean.

Lastly, we had a meal where the staff sang happy birthday to my wife. We hadn't mentioned this but obviously the reception staff had passed it in. nice touch

Room Tip: twin bedded room tend to be larger

Dear jean 186411,

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us at the Imperial Hotel.

I was dissapointed to hear that we did not meet with your expectations on your stay. I have previously sincerely apologised for the fact that your birthday banner and champagne were not placed in the bedroom prior to your arrival. As an attempt to restore your faith in the Imperial Hotel we organised chocolates, wine and flowers for your bedroom on a complimentary basis for your wife's 70th birthday celebrations.

I do apologise again for our short commings and I do hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you back to the Imperial Hotel the next time you are in the Cork area.

Kind regards,
Anne

We took the two night pamper package which was excellent value. The hotel has excellent facilities including a good standard restaurant, large bar and coffee shop. Location is very central with everything you need within a short walking distance. The hotel is very grandeur and rooms are a good size but could do with updating. This was my first spa break and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
