“Lovely hotel - excellent service”
Reviewed 13 August 2014 via mobile

We had a single night in this hotel during our recent trip around Ireland. The room was comfortable and faced the side street adjoining the hotel. No noise issues, a well appointed room with free WiFi which worked well. Breakfast was good. Parking is 9 euros, at a parking station around the corner from the hotel, a few minutes walk.

Our main issue was that my wife unfortunately left her iPad in the room when we left Cork. The hotel staff found it, telephoned us and then forwarded it on us by courier (really safely packaged too, with lots of bubble wrap). We picked it up in Dublin at our hotel just prior to flying out of Ireland. This was our mistake, the hotel staff were really great and couldn't have been more helpful to us. Great service. We thought this was an excellent hotel on all levels.

My in laws celebrated their Wedding 50 years ago in the Imperial Hotel. We had the best night at their Golden Wedding celebrations. Lorna Collins organised everything in a calm methodical way. As I was the organiser I was a bit flappy coming up to the event but she was so cool that it put me at ease. We had around 100 guests , The manager on duty , Jim, was just fantastic ! The whole event was just like a wedding. The tables were beautifully dressed, the red carpet was rolled out, the drinks reception , the table plan, the attention to detail , the meal itself was wonderful, and plenty of it too! . We couldn't have asked for more! Thumbs up for the atmospheric Imperial Hotel.

Room Tip: We were a bit worried about the noise from the street but the windows were excellent at keeping out...

Dear aliatmillscakes,

Thank you for choosing the Imperial Hotel for your Golden Wedding Anniversary celebrations.

As a long established Cork hotel we were honoured that the couple had the opportunity to celebrate again with us at the Imperial Hotel.

I will pass on your excellent comments to the team with a special mention to Lorna and Jim who both organised the event.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish the happy couple many more years of health and happiness together.

Best regards,
Anne

Staff were really helpful and enjoyed our time in the lovely bar area. Rooms seemed OK to me, contrary to another review and we were very happy there. Charge for breakfast quite high at 15 euro so we declined (a discount for hotel guests would have swung it) and had a nice one in the nearby English Market.

Room Tip: Superior best choice and room at the back likely to be quieter

This review will be a bit of a mixed bag. Overall I enjoyed the hotel, but there are some items that hold it back.

First, let me say the common areas are really beautiful. Very nice and located right near all the downtown shopping (such as the English Market). Great location, and a good restaurant and attached bar. Staff were nice and eager to help.

The part where it starts to unravel a bit is the room itself. Was just a standard room, but very old/dated (and not in a good way). Carpet was very worn, and the room very basically appointed. In a way, it seems its 4 star rating is based on 5 star common areas, and 3 star rooms. I'm not sure if they're slated to redo the rooms so, but that's the item that is holding them back in my opinion. I will say though, that the rooms have a good amount of size, but the rooms themselves are a let down. Also, depending on what section of the hotel you're in, the rooms can get quite warm during the summer months as the windows only open a small amount and no air condition is in the room.

Again though, a really good staff, and very nice common areas do help to balance it out a bit. I hope they update the rooms soon, as the hotel could be a great one with that done.

If I hadn't been wearing walking shoes, I would have felt A walk in the past entering the front door of the Hotel. The Imperial is the oldest hotel in Cork and still has many of its original amenities. The tea room is lovely and the afternoon tea is delicious. The South Bar is heavy carved wood and mirrors and great burgers.
Since it is elderly, the rooms are on the small side and there is no central air. The rooms were comfortable and quiet. Still and all the stay was lovely. The staff most accommodating and understanding.

Room Tip: Try to beta in a front room.

Our room had no air conditioning & the window looked out over a side street opposite a very noisy bar!! Not a lot of sleep was had!!! It's a basic hotel although would like to suggest otherwise. And is getting a little tired.... Time to update as the business customer expects more.

Room Tip: Ask about the outlook.... Away from bars

stayed here for 3 nights and had a great time and what value we got.......firstly breakfast is terrific and our evening meal was very good also but we also got a free tour of the city by tour bus , free lunch in the english market and free afternoon tea plus our room was upgraded . all this cost only 200 euro per person mid week . we had a great time and will return again to this hotel soon ..highly recommended.

Room Tip: rooms near the road can obviously be noisy .but the windows are well insulated
