“Clean but serious refurbishment needed”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2013 via mobile

After a series of hotel booking mishaps I ended up at the Ashley Hotel for €100 a night.

Unfortunatly , I had to move rooms once and my business colleague twice to find a room with a WiFi signal.

The room I ended in was clean but extremely dated. The hotel is directly opposite a music bar and with single glazed windows I was treated to live music all night. Whether I wanted it or not.

The only redeeming factor was that the staff were extremely polite. The night porter even went as far to cook us the full Irish Breakfast at 5am before our flight well ahead of the advertised 7am.

Overall, it was extremely overpriced for the standard.

Oke, the bedroom could use some refurbishment but everything workt! Nice warm water in the shower and the curtains made the room dark ( I mean, in some hotels you cannot even close the curtains). Manager Anita and her staff are very friendly and they make a good espresso. The hotel is very close to shops ( Marks and Spencers on five minuts walk), and close to restaurants and pubs. You can walk to the hotel from the busstation, easy when you arrive at Cork airport. I had a good time in this hotel, so thank you Anita. One tip, there are rooms for smokers and non smokers, so think about that when you make a reservation. Kind regards, Mirjam

The hotel is situated in a side street just across the river from the main shopping area. I was greeted by a very friendly and welcoming receptionist who explained the hotel facilities and gave me directions to the event I was attending without even having to be asked.

I was sceptical after reading some of the comments on here but I needn't have worried. My room was at the back of the building I had booked a single so was surprised to find myself in a double. The bathroom was large for a hotel and appeared to have recently been refurbished. My only gripe was the over sink mirror is very low down on the wall.

No wifi in my room and even in the lounge areas it wasn't brilliant.

Overall a nice place to stay for a short trip with friendly staff.

Rooms are horrible, our bath was leaking, had to put towels at the leak when having a shower. Beds are uncomfortable. The free wifi doesn work in the rooms, only works downstairs. The 2 receptionists didn't have a clue, took ages to check us in. They cant pull a pint either. Just really poor service. Only positive is that its only a 5-10 min walk from the city centre. Wont see me there again.

Travelling as a group of motorcyclists it was important to us that secure parking was available and the Ashley seemed ideal. The car park is through an archway into a courtyard which was ideal. The manageress is charming and was very welcoming too. The rooms have seen better days and ours smelled of cigar smoke. The décor is shabby and the bathrooms need replacing. The TV was old and had very few channels though that wasn't an issue. The bar area was fine but the breakfast room was cramped. Breakfast was very poor and certainly not worth 10 euro's . We didn't have an evening meal so couldn't comment on the food but if breakfast was anything to go by I feel we made the right decision. The hotel is only a 5 minute walk from the city centre and is situated on a busy main road. We stayed for two nights here but wished we'd only booked the one.
The one redeeming feature of this hotel are the staff who other than the manageress seem to all be Eastern European and are pleasant and friendly.

Would I stay here again, sorry, I'm afraid not.

Room Tip: Rooms towards the front are over a busy main road.

The staff here are very welcoming, friendly and helpful, the room was dated but spotless and the housekeeping during our two night stay was excellent.
Ideally placed for the city centre, just a few minutes walk.
Would stay here again.

Poor standard of decor. Did not try food. For a little more try jury's or ambassador. Wifi Not in all rooms which is Important if you are staying on business . Receptionist very nice. Got a non smoking room and somebody had been smoking in it. Would not stay again .
