“Read the fine print...and bring a mountain goat.”
Reviewed 24 June 2014

How can a hotel get a four star rating without air conditioning? One should not even have to look for the "fine print" for air conditioning these days. The room is airless.

But if you want to be refreshed, you can go for their advertised swimming pool. However, it's a 640 meter UPHILL hike to a lane pool full of kids doing public swim lessons. Even the front desk clerk suggests you DRIVE to their pool. (I can drive to a pool from any hotel in Cork!)

Ice bucket? Nope. Ice machines? Nope. In room refrigerator? Nope.

We just cancelled our second night we're moving elsewhere. Only saving grace is that I'm sending this review over their wifi.

Dear Stephen 5775,

It is with regret I read your review posted while in the hotel on the 24th of June. Unfortunately as I was present in the hotel for the duration of your stay it would have been nice to both speak with you and to assist with some of the misinformation you posted.

Yes you are correct when you state that the room you were residing in did not have air conditioning, which is a fact.

However it is not some part of a larger conspiracy that we did not inform you of same.
If you asked you would have been given a truthful answer.

It is not a four star requirement to have all rooms air conditioned and for outside a maximum of a month a year in Ireland not usually a huge requirement.

In times of extreme temperatures we do have portable devices available and if you required same we would have provided.

I cannot understand why you are alluding to some kind of "fine print" that’s needs to be examined prior to staying in the hotel.

This suggests that we are someway concealing information prior to guest arriving.

The leisure centre of which our valued guests have complimentary access is advertised on our website as “Located within walking distance of the Silver Springs Moran Hotel Cork you will find Source Leisure Centre. This is an independently owned and operated leisure facility for which our hotel residents can enjoy free access. "

Yes you are correct when you say you can drive to a swimming pool anywhere in Cork but not within the same distance and not use complimentary without cost. The front desk clerk on duty suggested driving as the facility has its own car park and was merely a suggestion rather than an indication of the distance.

Your reference to bringing a mountain goat in the title of your review I presume refers to the driveway to the leisure centre but I am unsure of what is the relevance of this.

Therefore I would suggest that if the website was read correctly rather than alluding to fine print would be the correct course of action.

On your review you also state:

"Ice bucket? Nope. Ice machines? Nope. In room refrigerator? Nope."

Again this is untrue. We do have ice buckets available should anyone wish to bring ice to their room for beverages not purchased in the hotel.

We do have in room refrigerators in a number of rooms and a stock available that can be placed in your room if requested.

As a moderately sized hotel (109 rooms) there is absolutely no need to have ice machines available on each floor as the demand is not there for such a service.

We do and always provide ice to rooms when requested obviously with no charge which is available as part of our 24hour room service provision.

A simple phone call to our front desk would have assisted you with your requirements here.

I am glad that you are happy with the complimentary wifi we provide throughout the complex however again I am disappointed that you felt it necessary to post your review without speaking to myself or one of my management team to clarify the issues you raised.

Here at the SilverSprings Moran hotel our priority is always the guest and providing the right levels of customer service and care. If for some reason we do not reach these levels that we strive so hard to achieve we are completely open and a member of management is available 24 hours a day to listen to any grievance a guest may have and to work hard to try and reach a suitable solution to these grievances.

Overall Stephen5575,

Again I regret you did not find the hotel suitable for your needs and I am available at your convenience should you wish to discuss your review further.

Assuring you of my most personal & professional attention at all times,

Yours Sincerely,

Eoin Daly,
General manager.

Stayed here for the june bank holiday weekend, great location close to fota wildlife park and cork city! We stayed with our 11 month old and had no problems staff very friendly and made a fuss over baby they have a small play room beside reception and a small play ground out the back! Received a complementary upgrade to a suite which was a nice surprise would definitely stay again. Food in bar was nice also breakfast was your standard hotel buffet type

Stayed here the weekend of June 12th to June !5th.We were put into a room at the front of hotel, could hear traffic and noise all night-windows need to be updated. We asked to be moved the next morning,so moved to a room to the back of hotel and that was satisfactory.Breakfast wasn't freshly cooked, which at 12.50 euro,we feel it should be,and dining room staff did not seem very interested in what they were doing.e.g.used dishes left uncollected-even though it was not busy.On our last morning,we arrived for breakfast,we collected our breakfast and asked the manager for tea and toast. The toast arrived in a basket and when we had eaten some of the toast we discovered a used plaster sitting in the basket on top of the rest of the toast. We called the Manager and he apologised and offered us a fresh breakfast-which of course we could not accept, feeling absolutely disgusted with what we had just found. We then went to check out and when we spoke to another Manager, he said the dining room Manager was looking into the issue. We had to ask for a refund on the cost of our breakfast-which should have been offered to us without asking. We were promised a phone call with an explanation on the matter, which we have not received which in our opinion is very bad customer service.

Room Tip: Don't take a room at the front

We stopped here for a bite to eat on the way back from Fota wildlife park with a baby and a toddler. On the positive side the staff were very polite and friendly and the lounge / bar area was very spacious and modern. The menu sounded great however the quality of the food was poor. Chips were meant to be "home cut" but were greasy and tasty like cheap frozen chips. The Salmon risotto was very bland and their was no "bang" in the bang bang chicken salad. Overall very disappointing.

Myself and my girlfriend arrived on Friday evening and were welcomed with a big smile.
We stayed for 2 nights and to be honest I don't think either of us made one complaint the whole weekend. We were lucky enough to stay in a suite and it was amazing, as was the food, staff and entertainment.
Great buzz around the hotel both with the staff and customers.
Just a great atmosphere all round.
We will definitely be back soon.

Dear Nieznana N,

Thank you very much for taking the time to write such lovely review.

We are delighted that you enjoyed your visit here in Cork and that we exceeded your expectations. I particularly enjoyed reading your praises for our Watermarq Restaurant, as I believe our Head Chef Gary Burke has put a great deal of effort to come up with such wonderful menus.

We look forward to welcoming you back soon, and if there is anything I can do to further enhance your future stays, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
