“Needs upgrading”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 April 2014

My husband and myself stayed here for a weekend in December . The staff were helpful and friendly but the building itself could do with upgrading there is only one lift . The rooms were clean but need repainting and brighting up . There was good choice of food in restraunt but it came out Luke warm . The weekend we stayed the hotel was real cold the staff were asked to turn up the heating but it felt that they didn't .

Myself and my partner stayed last weekend to celebrate our engagement. We paid €40 for a room upgrade, to be put in a room directly above the restaurant renovation, we were told by reception that the building work would stop for the weekend, however we were woken early Saturday morning by drilling. The hotel were holding functions a few doors down from our room both nights, the first was a confirmation, resulting in children running up and down the corridor out side our room and in to the late evening. On the 2nd night myself and my partner had to leave the hotel at 3.30am to get our flight home, so wanted to order room service, we were told this was not available and if we wanted to eat it would have to be off of a very limited menu in the restaurant. We had also arranged with reception to have coffee and toast delivered to the room at 3am, this did not arrive due to the staff struggling to deal with a party of drunk rugby players who had been shouting outside the front of the hotel most of the night again keeping us awake.

Stayed in the Ambassador in April 2014 with my brother for a family occasion. Lovely hotel, though I since found out the area has a bad reputation but the hotel was great. We were all the way up on the 3rd floor and unfortunately the lift only goes to the 2nd floor. Also, my room was right beside the lift mechanism so I could hear everytime it was called - very old lift as well, watch out when it stops! However, the hotel was lovely, I loved the decor and you can see they are doing it up. My room was obviously newly done as it was very fresh looking and the bathroom was gorgeous, though very small and I was a bit disappointed to find only a shower and no bath. Breakfast the next morning was great and when I said to the duty manager that I didn't want a cooked breakfast as I don't eat meat, he offered me a freshly made omlette which was great. Great value for money as well. Would definitely stay here agin.

//We stayed here during a hen weekend on 7/4/14. It was a great location with really friendly/helpful staff. We arrived early and they did everything they could to make sure the rooms were ready early. They chilled our Processo & gave us champagne glasses etc.....even brought everything up to the room for us. From start to finish they were superb and did all they could to make our stay a happy memorable one. We had lunch in the bar and it was lovely....as was breakfast the next morning. The waiter (although I think he may have been a manager) went out of his way to help us and tend to our every need. They are building a new restaurant onsite - this will be a great addition to the hotel.
It is really close to town so cheap on a taxi (if you want to get one the hotel will organise it for you). Overall, the main thing this hotel can pride itself on is it's outstanding hospitality. It is a real credit to the manager and his team!

This hotel is very nice and well appointed. The rooms are very neat, staff friendly, restaurant service excellent.
The areas to be careful of are:
No WIFI in the rooms facing the side street, Beware this place is popular and will give preference for good rooms to wedding bookings. I had my room changed to a front view after a wedding party left and also got great wifi.
The hotel is on Military Hill that i affectionatly call cardiac arrest hill. I got so fit negotiating this in the afternoons returning from the city. Overall it's a very good place to stay.

Room Tip: Try to get a front room as these have wifi. Heard the elevator is noisy, it's an antique but i c...

Stayed here for two nights. Hotel is very clean and room was very large. Staff were very helpful. Its only a 10 minute walk to the main bars restaurants in Cork city. Food was nice and bar was comfortable although they did'nt have my lager on tap.Would recommend this hotel and will stay here again although the heating could be turned off a bit earlier. Also Don the porter is a legend!

Had my daughters confirmation meal there and have to say it was absolutely beautiful, they catered for both kids and adults. The staff were great especially the young man that looked after us no request was to big for him and he dealt with everything very efficiently.
We'll done ambassador!
