This hostel was really good for the price but do expect it to be loud, and we found it to be cold at night as well. Wifi only works in the main lobby, but the location is great! Also a kitchen and dining tool available which is very helpful for the budgeted traveler!

We stayed here recently for two nights in a twin room with private bathroom.

We paid 40 Euros per night for the two of us and were very disappointed in the room facilities, staff and extra charges.

Staff:

All three staff members that we encountered were unfriendly and uninterested in helping in anyway or going above and beyond the bare minimum.
The first staff member who checked us in, handed us sheets. I specifically confirmed that pillows and towels etc were upstairs, he confirmed that yes, everything we need is there.
We entered the room and found that no towels were there.
We asked a different member of staff for some towels when we went down again, and he said there is a 0.50 Euro Cent charge per towel. Given that the price paid for this place is already quite high, we didn't understand why there is a charge for towels.
We mentioned that the first staff member advised they were already up there - he did not care and again, repeated that they will be 0.50 Euro cents.

When checking out, a different member of staff simply stuck his hand out rudely for the room cards, not making eye contact and continuing his conversation with a fellow staff member. We had no acknowledgement that we were there, no thank you, no 'did you have a nice stay' - nothing.

Room:

The room was very basic - bunk bed, window, small chest of drawers, sink in the main room area and bathroom open plan with shower and toilet. There was no TV.

The shower was almost unusable... The tap was a button which you press and the water lasts for around 10 seconds - think public toilet taps... Although the water was warm, by the time you pressed the button and picked up your soap, the water had stopped. We had to resort to standing there pushing the button in for each other while we showered...

Im not sure if Cork has a water shortage or they just want to save money on heating the water, but this was a terrible idea and made showering very difficult. We have never seen this before in the many hotels we have stayed at. Luckily I didn't need to wash my hair as this would have taken quite some time and been impossible had I not had someone pressing the button in for me.

Location:

The hostel is a 15-20 minute walk to the main city centre/bus station and there isn't too much around in terms of restaurants/shops etc.

Overall, we would recommend staying somewhere more central to the main city centre as the rooms and staff were very disappointing.

We only stayed in this hostel for one night in an all female 6 bed dorm. Everything in the hostel was clean and it was well equipt with a kitchen and dining room and lounge room with TV. Free WiFi available downstairs is also a bonus. It is in a good location an easy walk from the city centre with a small but well stocked corner shop opposite. There is also a small amount of free parking out the back of the hostel if you have a car. They offer a range of breakfast options for an extra cost ranging from €2 to €6.50. The only downside to this hostel was the very disinterested and relatively unhelpful staff member working when we arrived. He may have been having an off day but he didn't make it very easy for us to figure out what we were going to do in the short time we were in Cork or where we could get good food. Other than that though it was a good experience and good value for money.

Nice hostel, within easy walking distance of town. Warm and clean with pleasant staff - when we ordered breakfasts the guy even asked if we wanted the scrambled eggs in or next to the toast!
As it was quiet me and my sister were able to have a room to ourselves which was good.
Not quite getting the five stars though cause we tried three times but never got any hot water in the shower, but there was plenty at the sink so it wasn't so bad. And then there was a big no no for me - when we arrived the heat was on and the window open. An environmental faux pas...

We've got nice, clean room, with bathroom and nice view. The staff was helpful and friendly. Okay, it takes around 15min walk to get to the center of the town, but famous university is just across the street and bus stop is in front of the hostel... so no need to worry ;)
I would stay there again, definitely!

While a bit out of town (15 min walk), Cork International Youth Hostel offers good value for a hostel. We took advantage of the private room option (20 EUR per person per night) and were accomodated in a spacious four bed room, shower and toilet were ensuite. As usual in hostels, the basin was in the bedroom and not in the bathroom. The lower bed of one of the two bunk beds in the room was a double bed wich suited us very well. The sheets were spotless and the mattress comfortable. Everything was clean, however, the house itself is quite old and the rooms could do with a refurbishment to meet more modern standards. The staff is helpful and very polite, a selection of different breakfast options is available at a price range of 4 to 6,50 EUR. A surveilled parking space is available in the backyard and there's a bus stop directly in front of the hostel. The beautiful campus of Cork University is around the corner, well labeled walks across the city pass the hostel in the back. Overall a nice place to stay, we would come back if we're in Cork ever again.
