Helena is a wonderful host. She couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome and leapt to the rescue after a car-hire disaster threatened to cancel our holiday before it had even started. Lovely large clean rooms, a great breakfast and the kind of open hearted welcome that money can't buy.

My niece chose this B&B to stay in as she was a student in Cork this past semester. So, I take no credit for the lovely time we had there. The owner, Helena, is a super-friendly, very helpful person and upholds the great reputation that Irish B&Bs hold. It's about relationship for her. We were there for a number of nights and found it to have great location, super services, to be VERY clean and that they were very accommodating our food requests. I would go back there in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: The rooms on top are a bit of a trek up but VERY quiet.

After being turned away from 4 other B&B's along the same road, we tried the Achill House for a place to stay. My wife and I stayed here 1 night. A ring on the doorbell and we were greeted by a younger woman, that didn't really introduce herself (still not sure what her name is). She stated that they had a room available. We were led upstairs to look at the room and agreed to stay the night. She then walked away and we left to grab luggage. We were given a key, and that was pretty much it. No real explanation or anything. Kind of a cold reception.

The room was clean, but slightly dated and "tired" looking. It was average, and was good enough for a night stay. We had a decent breakfast in the morning, and then were on our way. I would probably look elsewhere if you want nice digs for a few nights stay in the Cork area. If you need a place for a night or two, this would work. We didn't spend a lot of time in the room, so it was fine. Compared to the other B&B's we stayed in on our trip, the Achill House was slightly lacking.

This is by far one of the nicest places I have stayed in in a while! You can tell that the place is family run, which is one o the things that I have always loved about Irish b&bs! Being greeted at the front door by the owner and her kid (who is the sweetest most adorable kid ever) and with "bea" as morning entertainment durning breakfast it was a perfect setting to show my Canadian friend exactly what Irish living, as well as the joys of a small family run b&b, is like! I will be staying again the next time I have to head to cork :)

Stayed at Achill House for 9 days. A very pleasant place to stay in and an incredibly helpful staff. Excellent value for money to boot. City Centre location is another plus, being close to town and the Main University (UCC). Clean and pleasant too with an excellent internet connection.

I would genuinely recommend Achill House to visitors of Cork.

I had the pleasure of staying in Achill for 3 whole weeks as part of my studies in cork. The owner Helena and the other staff were super friendly. They were always available to help and offer advice about Cork . The room i stayed in was warm , very comfortable and incredibly clean, the water was always warm for whenever I needed a shower with fluffy , fresh towels daily .It was such a relief to return to the b&b after the freezing and sometimes rainy days (just the normal november/december weather) Lots of options for breakfast including full irish, pancakes, cereals, fresh fruit to set you up for the day.

The B&B is just a 10 to 15 minute walk from the main street in the city centre and it is literaly across the road from UCC and a lovely walk in the park right behind.

Not one single problem here during my long stay, i was very happy and would most definatly return here if i find myself in cork again.

Megan
