“Nice stay”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

Stayed here for 1 night when my mum was in the Bons hospital. It was a nice stay. Both the owner and girl working there were very welcoming.
I had a single room which had a wall view and was very tight as there was a double bed however it was cosy and comfortable.
The toilet had toiletries left and clean towels. Fully equipped for all your needs.
Breakfast was a cereal bar and fruits. These were tinned fruits. No pastries or brown bread. Perhaps on request but I was only offered toast. Choice of cooked breakfast. I went for the pancakes which were delicious.
I would stay again as there is parking. Near UCC grounds. On bus route to CIT, Bons Secours hospital, CUH. A short walk into town.

I stayed in Achill House on a short trip to Cork and found it absolutely delightful. I had a bright room with a very comfortable bed. The location of the B&B is perfect. An easy 10 minute walk to the city centre & lots of nice restaurants. The nicest thing about my stay was the warmest & friendliest of welcomes that I got. Great hospitality & great service. I will definitely be back

Achill House is a delightful accommodation that is most conveniently located--within walking distance of just about any part of central Cork, and only about 100 yards from the entrance to University College Cork. The room we had was by no means luxurious, but it was entirely adequate and comfortable, and the bathroom, though small, was well equipped and had a good shower. The breakfast was first-rate, and Cynthia, the lady in charge of the kitchen arrangements, was assiduous in her friendly efforts to satisfy our needs (we are vegetarians). There was only one untoward circumstance that left us with a not very good feeling. The proprietor--also a very friendly lady--, on our last morning, when we went to settle our bill, told us that because we had stayed "only" 5 nights, our daily rate would be 10 euros higher than what was originally quoted us. When we'd booked the accommodation a few months earlier, we had booked for 7 days, but had explicitly pointed out that the dates were tentative, and that we might well need to change them. At that point we were quoted a rate of 89 euros per night, and no minimum stay requirement was stipulated in association with that rate. Indeed, during our stay we heard Helena (the proprietor) quote 89 euros to people who clearly had no intention of staying even as long as we did. So, although we paid the higher rate of 99 euros without a murmur, we left with a feeling that we'd been taken advantage of. We still think this a fine place to stay, but would urge anyone booking it to make sure the rates are firmly clarified in writing, and in advance (although we thought that was so in our case, and we were still asked to pay more(.

Achill b n b is very central to Cork a few streets from the main cbd. Cynthia was a lovely host. We had a lovely quiet room on the 3rd floor, very clean and a very comfy bed. Cynthia told us of some great places to visit and a pub that had live music and great food

Allthough Achill House had no room left when we arrived at their doorstep, the very friendly landlady helped us on our way. We were desperate for a room for that night and she found us one of the only three rooms that were available in the whole of Cork City area. Not only that, she also made the reservations for us and gave us a printout before showing us how to get there. We were very grateful for her help and were even more sorry we couldn't stay in her own B&B.

We had a lovely stay here in cork recently, the hostess was immediately warm and friendly. The location of the B&B is fantastic. The room was spacious, bright and comfortable. Helena was an amazing host and when we lost our car key, she stayed with us to help us find a solution and then drove us to meet our relatives at the other side of the city. When a stranger goes out of there way to help you at a time when you need it most, it puts a whole new meaning to hospitable. I can't recommend this B&B enough and thank the staff for their warm, friendly and supportive manner. oh yeah and the brekkie was yum too......

Room Tip: oops there is no swimming pool or fitness centre... i did that by accident...

The Achill House was warm, welcoming and absolutely immaculate! My daughter is attending The University of Cork and this was a perfect location for my visit. I could meet her at the corner coffee shop for chai or lunch or she would stop in after class. We could walk to the town center, English market, restaurants or bus depot. Thanks to the available wifi service, I was able to skype and access my email. Helena was so helpful with recommendations for day trips, restaurants, pubs, directions and local events. She even booked a taxi to take me to the airport. I had such a great time there and felt so at home, it was hard to leave!

Room Tip: If you need wifi, don't stay on the top floor. If you like to sleep in, avoid a room directly o...
