The bed& breakfast accommodation is alright for just a few days. It could become difficult staying there longer. The whole house is fairly narrow and inclined (so are the rooms as well). Don't expect too much. It is clean and the walking distance into the city of cork is not far. The host is very nice and funny though. Breakfast contained the typical selection of food. Don't judge by the price since it dosen't match with the low comfort level.

We stayed at Number 48 B & B during our honeymoon. The place was very nice and had great service. We had a delicious breakfast while we chatted with Jerry, the owner. What made this an extra special stay was Jerry's kindness and help during our stay.
We managed to lose our rental car keys while in Cork. We had already checked out of the B&B but when we went back there for somewhere to try and resolve our problem Jerry was more than accommodating. He let us use is phone to call the rental company, and then he also spoke directly with them when they were not cooperating with us, and tried to fix our problem. When we were told that we couldn't get keys for 2 days, Jerry offered to drive us to our next stay (about 30 mins away) which was already booked and come pick us up the next day so that we could get back to the car! THis was truly going above and beyond what he needed to do.
Luckily for all of us, our keys turned up at a local shop and we were on our way. But we are still so grateful to Jerry for his help and opening his place to us when we were no longer Guests! So Thanks!

We stayed with Jerry for one night in late May. Whilst the breakfast was adequate and Jerry is a nice guy with advice on where to have dinner and places to visit in the area, the rooms are small and at 40Euro per head, are simply overpriced. This stay was part of a 4 week driving tour staying mostly B&B's and I am afraid Jerry's place does not stack up at this price, especially when you do not even get tea & coffee facilities. Dispite Jerry's assurances you can hear the traffic on the busy road out front and also be aware of the seriously sloping floors which make you feel like are either going up or down hill all the time.

Jerry is a wonderful host. Great breakfast, great conversation, and very knowledgable of the City of Cork which was quite helpful for us girls looking for a warm place to stay when our first choice had no vacancy. Albeit the rooms were small and the building was a bit creeky, we stayed for the hospitality and left feeling refreshed and ready to explore Cork and beyond.

Jerry Spillane was incredibly kind and even offered to drop me to my Conference and to a meal another night. The Irish breakfast was a most generous portion and the house was right beside the station which made it really convenient. At € 40 per person per night it was very good value.

We took a trip to Ireland for our honeymoon. We had some B&B vouchers and wanted to book at Number 48 in Cork. We emailed the owner to set up a booking since the central booking website was down. We asked him if he had any rooms available. He said he had rooms available. We confirmed by sending an email stating when and how we would be arriving and that we looked forward to meeting him. He never wrote back. We arrived in the early evening on the night we said we would. He came to the door and I introduced myself. He said, "We're full. You never confirmed your booking." (Or something along those lines.) We thought our response email to him had been sufficient, as it was sufficient for the other B&Bs we stayed at. Despite that he never told us that we needed to send additional confirmation information, we understood the mistake. We didn't provide him with whatever it was he was looking for, and he rented his rooms. It's completely understandable. HOWEVER...

He proceeded to yell at us. Literally yell at us. We were standing outside in the cold, apologizing for the misunderstanding. I think I apologized about 6 times. Since we thought we would be staying at Number 48 that night, and it was full, we had nowhere to stay. We asked if we could come in to use his internet to find another place to sleep that night. He sternly said no. Just plain "no." We asked if there was another place we could find internet. He directed us to an internet cafe about a block away. We went there. It didn't exist. We then proceeded to drive around Cork for almost an hour before we could park and find somewhere to look up another place to stay for the night. It was an extremely aggravating experience. Needless to say, we were both pretty upset by the end of the night.

After we got settled at another B&B, we looked back through the email exchange that we had with him and don't understand why he was so rude to us. It was clearly a misunderstanding, and we apologized (though in retrospect, I'm not totally sure why we were the ones apologizing...). The least he could have done was allow us to use his phone or internet. After all the reviews talking about how warm and wonderful he is, we were beyond shocked.

I don't know that we've ever encountered such a rude, unforgiving, inhospitable person in all our travels.

Based on mixed reviews we were curious about how our stay would be. Jerry was very friendly and the stay was exactly what we had thought. We got in to town late after being up all night flying, the bed was comfortable and we slept late. We missed breakfast time so we didn't have a chance to eat. Good place for a basic nights sleep - no frills.
