Nice view. No direct acces to the lighthouse.
I had to go through a fence to reach a nice point of view and taking some pictures.

Fanad Lighthouse is a joy to behold. Even if you don't do the guided tour, the place is impressive and even more so on a sunny day. We were lucky - it was cold but sunny and dry and the lighthouse shone (can I say a lighthouse shone?) Cracking views and a welcome history board for those who cannot make the tour. I look forward to going back and taking the guided tour.

Unexpected surprise when we drove up to Fanad Head last week to find out that they have now started doing tours on grounds and up into lighthouse tower as well. For 4 euro you are admitted to walk around on your own within the fence which gives opportunity to make much better pictures. For 8 euro's you will also be guided around and with lots of explanation you will be led up into the second (bulb)floor of the lighthouse wich gives you a magnificent view over sea. At the time we were here (3rd april) there were no signs whatsoever and gates were closed, but watching from the outside with camera's, one of the huides came down to us to ask if we were interested in the tour.
Wouldn't have want to miss this. Great view, beautiful place.

We have often come to the lighthouse and admired this iconic building. Two weeks ago we had the good fortune to attend on the first day of public tours by the new co-operative. The lighthouse is magnificent; well kept and with a really nice display and information centre on the ground floor. Tours can only accommodate 6 people, so booking is essential. It was the first day of tours and our guides first ever tour. He managed quite well, knew his stuff and I gave five stars because there is not doubt that with more tours they will only get better.

Visitors can access the gantry (if it is not too windy) and have stunning views across to Inishowen Peninsula and back toward Tory Island and Horn Head. Fanad is a magical placed and it just got more enchanting with the opening of the lighthouse to the public!

Visited just several days after this opened to the public and were very impressed.
Obviously the setting is amazing with views in every direction but the fact that you can access the lighthouse and be guided right up into the light itself is a bit rare for anyone.
The Guides who are all local to the area are very knowledgable and encouraging to adults and kids to climb the full height of the light and it's worthwhile getting over any nerves you might have. Tours are hourly and they were able to fit us in at lunchtime-thanks.
The local pub- The Lighthouse Inn does food all day so if you're early it's a good place to while away an hour.
Take a camera to record the spectacle if the winds blowing and the waves are crashing on the rocks below.
