“Fine, does what it says on the tin”

Enjoyed a 2 night stay here with the family on one of their special deal breaks. 2 young children. The only problem we had was that the family room offered was actually the disabled access room and a smoking room to boot. So the smell, no bath and soft beds made for a poor nights sleep. To be fair though, there was no problem moving room on the following night, and the staff were very helpful throughout. Food was fine, location good, and the pool too.

We have just returned from a one night stay and have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. It is warm, comfortable, the service is excellent and the food in the restaurant is oustanding. We were there on a very busy weekend when there was a Valentine's Day function but service in the bars and restaurant did not suffer one jot. The rooms are large and comfortable and the public areas have lots of cosy nooks to curl up and read the newsapapers in front of the fire.

My hubby and I had a wonderful time here from start to finish. Staff were very welcoming, helpful and informative. Bedrooms a good size and very warm and comfortable. Good size swimming pool. The food in this hotel is just fabulous, whether that be in the restaurant or grill bar. Good varied menus, good service and delicious food. The buffet breakfast was also excellant - served until 11am, which is a bonus, and a great choice on offer which was piping hot. Nothing was a bother to the staff. Definately will be back.

Lovely hotel. 3 mins walk into Donegal Town. Hotel is clean, well located, friendly and excellent value for money. Rooms are huge. They could do with a bit of an update but you cannot argue for the price. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. Staff were always helpful.

At first look this is a very nice hotel, but first appearances can be deceptive. Rooms appear modern and comfortable but at a closer look - no toiletries in bathroom, a loose toilet seat, a missing blind from a clear glass door on the ground floor, a total of 8 TV channels including one in Irish only, no biscuits to go with coffee, a charge for pool towels - oh and the most major thing of all - on a night when the temperature outside dropped below freezing, no heat turned on in the room. When we arrived in our room at 7pm it felt rather cool and the radiators were cold. On return from dinner in town at 8:50pm there was still no heat on. I queried with reception to be told it had gone off on timer at 7pm (no it hadn't!!) but it could be "boosted" from reception now. So heat came on at 9pm only to go off again at 10pm. Woke up next morning around 8:30 to find heat still wasn't and hadn't been on, despite frost & ice outside. A protest to reception - again (to be told again that it had been on earlier and should be on now) - brought the system on for 1 hour.
That takes us to breakfast. To the reviewer below who complained she was only served 2 slices of toast at breakfast, they have sorted that one - they now don't serve toast to the table despite their own menu sheet saying they do - guests now have to queue and jostle in the busiest corner of the worst laid out breakfast arrangement I have seen in this supposed class of hotel to make their own toast. Oh and forget the "baked Irish ham" and "selection of Irish cheese" along with the "fresh baked scones" that they claim they serve - they don't! While the cooked breakfast is passable (if you don't mind rubbery, over-dried scrambled eggs!) you have to have it on cold plates. Service is well under-manned, off-hand at best and totally absent at worst during breakfast as well. All this in an over-crowded, over-loud, badly arranged dining area - so hardly a restful, luxurious experience.
I again queried with reception as to what was going on with the heating, another excuse about a system problem and she would call maintenance now was given. Now maybe I am just cynical but this was the 3rd time I had raised the issue and nothing had been done each time but somehow the system miraculously came on each time - go figure that!!!
Now I believe a customer paying full rack rate in a supposedly 4 star hotel is entitled to a bit more service than that, so I made an assertive complaint and asked to speak to a manager about it. Well at 10:30 am on a Sunday morning there was apparently no manager available and there wouldn't be until 12.
Arriving back at the hotel at 8pm that night we found our room key would not work and a summons from the now present manager to talk to us. Apparently the receptionist (who he claimed was actually a manager) had felt so physically threatened by a female guest making a complaint in a busy reception, from across a substantial, high, solid, reception that she didn't feel safe. Maybe reading this you will say that there must have been a serious incident with physical threats being made but that was not the case. The complaint was firm but totally unaddressed and no reasons were put forward for any of the issues raised. Anyway, at 8:30pm on a freezing Saturday night, bank holiday weekend, we were asked to leave the hotel because their staff were entitled to a "safe, working environment".
The whole experience at this hotel gives a picture of a hotel that is cost-cutting to such an extent that it cuts standards and the experience of the guest. But needless to say they haven't cut their prices. This claims to be a 4 star and with a bit more care, attention to detail and better service it could be. At the minute I would only class it as a 3 star and even at that level heating in the room would be a necessity. Arrogance? Complacency? Disregard for guest? Eagerness to cost cut? Who knows the real reason, but don't expect 4 star standards here - and don't dare complain, because they just don't want to know.
