“Unexpectedly good”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 February 2014

My husband and I decided on a short break in donegal at the last moment and found the Abbey Hotel. Check in was painless and they gave us an upgrade to a king size bedroom with a jacuzzi bath - great. Breakfast was very well organised and staff pleasant. There was music in the bar on Friday evening which was very good. Overall a very pleasant experience.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel. It's much quieter.

Along with 43 others from the Day Centre for the Elderly of Carluke stayed at The Abbey from Monday 3rd to Thursday 6th February 2014. The Hotel is decorated to a very High Standard with comfortable furnishings and fittings. Whilst the Breakfast was of good quality the Evening Dinner was a disappointment with I am afraid not much thought applied to the variety or quality. Main Course Monday Evening (Boiled Ham or Fish) Main course Tuesday Evening (Lamb Stew or Fish) Main Course Wednesday Evening (Pork or Fish) Fish on three evenings not very satisfying I would suggest. A formal complaint was made to Management about the quality of food by the Group. Such a pity that a complaint had to be made as the Hotel shows other high standards. The Staff were extremely polite and helpful. In spite of the complaint about the food I would strongly suggest a visit to this establishment as it is in an ideal location for travelling to other Towns and places of Interest.

In the evening we visited a wee pub called the Reel Inn and this just ended a perfect day

Just back from The Abbey Hotel in Donegal. We were given the Honeymoon suite as requested by my lovely family. The management sent us up a bottle of champagne and they could not have been more helpful. We were travelling with Caledonian Travel from Glasgow and had a really great time.We also met up with some people we met last time we went there and who now have become firm friends so we will definitely be going back next year. Well done the wonderful staff at The Abbey for all you did as we wre celebrating our Golden Wedding.

We visited this hotel by booking a caledonian bus tour, our first bus tour, and for the price of this which was £99 which included travel from Glasgow, ferry from Cairnryan to Belfast and the journey to Donegal dinner bed & breakfast for 3 nights we were wondering what to expect. We had an excellent stay, large comfy room, not a good view over the air con units we must say, but who wants to stay in their room all day in such a lovely place? The meals were excellent value for money, 3 course, just what you would make yourself for dinner on weeknights, and if you wanted a variation of the food just ask, chips instead of potatoes, soup instead of fruit, nothing is too much trouble for the staff who worked so hard. Breakfast was lovely, everything freshly made and plenty of it. Entertainment in the hotel was excellent and all the staff are lovely, can't wait to go back x

Went back this year and enjoyed it more than last year. Hotel staff were pleasant ,cheerful and very helpful. Room was comfy and bath / shower a boon. Food was good and filling and staff even brought food not on our menu. Nit picking but no beans or black pudding at breakfast. Entertainment was enjoyable .Spa was in hotel next door which appeared to be undergoing refurbishment again.

Room Tip: Room 314 comfy with good views
