“The Wedding of our Dreams courtesy of Solis Lough Eske!”
Reviewed 7 September 2009

We have just held our wedding reception at Solis Lough Eske and cannot possibly give this hotel a better review. Absolutely everything exceeded expectation... and expectations were high to begin with.
We booked this wedding venue without actually visiting the castle (I am from Donegal but live in London). The wedding team are out of this world - Noreen and Catherine are 2 of the loveliest and most helpful individuals we have ever met and with their abundant help our wedding went off without a single hitch.
Words really can't express how perfect a dream wedding we had.... the rooms are amazing, the staff are wonderful, the ballroom actually had me in tears it was set up so beautifully, the food was sumptuous, the grounds are spectacular, the spa and spa staff were second to none.... we really had the most amazing wedding experience.
Reading through our guest book comments it seems like we were not alone in thinking the venue was perfect in every way... our guests cannot express enough how impressed they were with everything from the second they stepped through the front doors... if there's one thing that the Solis Lough Eske team do well it's attention to detail.... every element of the day was planned to perfection.
The 'standard' rooms are enormous, impressive and extremely comfortable. With just 2 adjoining rooms there was ample room for myself, the bridesmaids, 3 make-up girls, 1 hairdresser, 2 video guys, 1 photographer, my Mum and my cousin to do what we needed to do without feeling in any way cramped... now that's spacious!
The honeymoon (presidential) suite is breathtaking... the beautiful 4 poster bed and roll top bath being the real stand out features for my husband and I.
The staff have made us feel incredibly welcome and we will definitely be making some return visits, as wil a lot of our guests.

We came over from Birmingham to have our daughter's christening reception here on the 09/08/09 (we've previously had meals here when on holiday), I can only say the venue, service, the room, the choice and the food was exceptional!! The girls that waited on us were superb and Seamus was fantasic on the day. They even set up a play area in the room for the children when they had finished eating. The children's choice was really tasty and our food was mouth watering! I cannot thank them enough for a wonderful, none rushed and personal service - not one guest complained! I would recommend this venue to anyone for a function for its outstanding service and attention - and of course the setting is beautiful. All of our guests from Donegal and the UK were very impressed - Simply stunning and outstanding!!!

The garden suite was spacious and comfortable, staff were extemely helpful. Spa and pool were great and i can't comment on the restaurant since we only had breakfast there. But the staff at breakfast coped well with the huge crowds arriving towardsthe end of the breakfast serving. Would definitely visit again.

My wife and I looked forward to a relaxing Saturday night in what is promoted as a 5* luxury hotel. We booked a Junior Suite - the room in question 'Room 314' which turned out to be located directly opposite a function room where a wedding party was taking place. The sound of constant very loud music did not even allow us to get to sleep. The music intensity seemed to increase accompanied by guests at the party coming out onto a balcony area singing, shouting and swearing. This continued until about 3.00 am. My wife had phoned reception at 2.00 am to complain only to be told by the Night Duty Manager that we should have been informed of theparty at check-in and in fact no one except wedding party guests should have been put in Room314 indeed any room in that area.
Next morning after what seemed like 1 hour's sleep when we recounted our experience the receptionist was very polite and most apologetic and after consultation discounted our room rate by 50%. However, we did not book a 5* hotel to have to endure a sleepness night and were more than happy to pay the tarrif for an enjoyable, relaxing experience and a full night's sleep. The receptionist advised us to write to the General Manager directly which we did the next day by email. To date we have yet to receive the courtesy of an acknowledgement let alone a response. From what I have experienced this typifies this hotel's customer service policy. They need to identify their market - is it 5 * guests or people who want to drink to excess, and indulge in anti-social behaviour?

I think the heading says it all. We were supposed to go up asnd stay for our 3rd trip last week but I won a weekend away in Castlemeyter in Cork so we went South instead.
To cut a long story short I cannot wait to go back up to Donegal to stay in this hotel. If you are going I would make sure there is no wedding on, as this hotel has to be experienced with out the helter skelter of a wedding. Its just perfect for a relaxing weekend.

We looked forward to a relaxing long week-end (Thursday - Sunday) in 5* luxury in one of their Junior Suites. We did indeed get a Junior Suite, however the bathroom, while beautiful to look at did not live up to it's looks - the water pressure was practically non-existant, even after a visit from the 'engineer'. The room in question 'Room 314' was situated over the delivery / loading bay and adjacent to the wedding reception room. We were kept awake on the Friday and Saturday nights until the early hours only to be awoken 'in the early hours' with delivery lorries. Why a 5* hotel would put guests staying for three nights (which would suggest they are not attending any wedding) in such a room is beyond us. To cut a long story short - when reception were approched all they could offer was an offhand apology, but no remedy. We will not be returning nor will we be recommending this hotel to our friends.
