“A nice B&B”
Reviewed 20 September 2013

We stayed two nights at the Island View House, and found our bedroom to be quiet and clean. The view was lovely and the breakfasts were very good. The owners were very gracious. If you are going to Donegal Town, this B&B is very convenient to town.

I felt very fortunate to find such a lovely spot for my stay in beautiful Donegal. My room with private washroom was immaculate, with crisp, clean sheets on a very comfortable bed. The owners, Michael and Bernadette could not have been better hosts. Excellent breakfast, with delicious homemade scones. Great find. Lovely people. After hours of touring the gorgeous countryside, it was lovely to come 'home' to such comfort.

We arrived in Donegal Town with no room reservation, so we stopped at the tourist information center to check on B&B availability. One of the B&Bs we were directed to was Island View House, where we were met at the door by Bernadette and warmly welcomed. The room was spotless and breakfast the next morning was excellent (we quickly became fans of the Ulster fry -- love those Irish sausages) with eggs cooked to order -- thank you!

It would be possible to walk from the B&B into Donegal Town, but it was really a little more of a walk than we wanted to tackle. It's a easy drive.

Very positive experience; we would stay there again.

This place is a bit out of town (not ideal if you don't have a car) set in a nice yard with good views out over the water. We were given one of the big front rooms with views and they were pretty impressive. Large room with a desk and heated blankets on the bed (which my wife couldn't get enough of). Friendly welcome and nicely away from the busy central area of town.

It was apparent at our arrival we were intruding. We were shown the door to the breakfast room but couldn't go in. We were asked on arrival what we wanted for breakfast but weren't shown the menu. Upon returning from our dinner and working to unlock the door, the inkeepers on the other side of the door quickly slipped into the breakfast room without assisting on opening the door. We almost felt we should apologize for intruding on them. Not welcoming, forthcoming or friendly at all. The bathroom was stocked with previously used shampoos, broken plastic cups (not wrapped so obviously used by someone else). After a month in Ireland this stay was the low point.

Room Tip: Don't stay here!

While the facility was adequate, the innkeepers welcome and reception made it very apparent that our visit was an inconvenience and an intrusion. I have found walk-in freezers that were warmer. The hosts avoided us at all costs, including ignoring the fact we were trying to unlock the front door to enter while they stood on the inside of the door without offering assistance. We were told that through a closed door was the breakfast room but we could not look in there until breakfast. It just went downhill from there......

Room Tip: don't stay here
