Description: McGill's is a friendly family run restaurant right in the heart of Temple bar. We offer delicious home cooked traditional Irish food, in a nice homely environment. We are well known for our fillet of Irish salmon and stew! We are a great choice for those seeking a more relaxed cosy ambiance in the middle of the hectic and lively Temple Bar. Our Building dates from before 1701, when it was owned by Sir William Temple, whom Temple Bar is named after.

Honestly, this was some of the best food we had in Dublin. We ordered the salmon and it was delicious and perfectly cooked. It was a nice espace from the craziness of Temple Bar and our service was lovely. We had the goat cheese plate for dessert and it was a perfect ending to our meal.

We were looking for a restaurant that I would eat anything from the menu. After looking at about 10 menus, we settled here and all really enjoyed it. We were on our way to a show so we didn't have time for dessert.

Typical tourist trap, with a good location in the centre of Tempel Bar.

1. No locals in the restaurant - often a bad sign!
2. They serve food - you could have made better yourself - spaghetti with industrial made tomato sauce from a tin and smoked mussels also from a tin.
3. Higher price level compared to other restaurants in the area.

So, don't fall into this tourist trap.

We went to the Palm tree Restaurant in Dublin the last couple of days of our holiday and we found the best restaurant in town! The palm tree restaurant is located in the heart of Temple Bar, right on front of the square. Inside is very cosy, warm and run by a very nice Irish family.
The service was perfect and the food.... Best we ever ate in Ireland! We were four adults, we had a starter, a nice hot and creamy mushroom soup, very good smoked salmon and garlic bread.
As main course, we had the lamb, better lamb we ate in our lives... The sauce was delicious! The fillet mignon with peppercorn sauce, very good, the scallops, and the chicken. All dishes were very well presented, perfectly cooked and tasty. The only thing missing was the bread (we are Italians and we are used to eat bread with our meals...) but we only had to ask for it! We got brown and white bread. Well, really the best place in Dublin! We will be back soon.

my wife & I have visited this restaurant on several occasions (the latest occasion was on 19/11) and having read earlier reviews I want to add my pennyworth. I find that a lot of reviews on this site are forwarded by saddos who tend to concentrate on the negatives. The most recent television ducumentary in Trip Advisor confirmed my view. This is not a place for the "chicken & chips" or "burger" diners. A small friendly restaurant and each time we have had excellent service both from male & female waiting staff. The menu is small but imaginative and is competively priced when compared with all the places around it that offer the same basic menu - bacon & cabbage, guinness pie, etc. The ideal spot for a leisurely lunch or an extended evening meal. But then most of the visitors to Temple Bar would probably be happier with curried chips!!
