Took a day tour to the Wicklow mountains, Manos the driver was very friendly and told us interesting stories the area.
The weather was perfect (hottest day in Ireland this year...) and the sights were breathtaking...
This day tour is an excellent choice if you want to see the Wicklow area highlights in one day.

What a great tour. Small bus, hidden scenery, plenty of stops with time to spend out enjoying the amazing views. An entertaining guide Manus full of knowledge and humour. Extremely courteous but what I loved most of all was that Manus has been guiding and taking people to the moutains for 20 years with Over The Top Tours. This was truly amazing and tells you what a great company he must work for. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our experience on the little red bus and could not recommend it highly enough. All I can say is please ring and book this tour - there is no answer machine and you will get someone who answers the phone!

I took the day trip through the Wicklow mountains and visited a variety of sites. As with other tours I have taken by bike or with other providers, this tour stops at a varied assortment of scenic and historic sites. Very little walking is required. The views, the environment is beautiful and striking. Bring a camera. While we did not receive information about all of the sites listed in the brochure, we did stop at some that were not highlighted -- so there were surprises all around. A very reasonable price. And the smaller tour sizes allow for individual attention and finer conversation than with some larger coach tours.

As you have to be 25 to rent a car in Ireland and the public buses only went to Wicklow city, we decided to take the tour. Also buses to Glendalough 20 euro return so why not take a tour with 25 euro and you get to see A LOT and are guaranteed to get back to Dublin!

The tour was absolutely amazing - the guide (sorry I forgot the name) was very funny and informative. We got to get out of the van a lot which was very pleasant. The guide also gave us coffee and crackers :) Was really relaxing to enjoy a cup of coffee looking at amazing views. I liked that it was a small group of people, with big groups there is the problem that you might not hear everything the guide is telling you.

We stopped in a pub with great food. If you are on a budget pack a lunch with you.

Make this tour by yourselves!! It is easy to do so.
Rent a car and don't think all organised tours are worth it!
We went with 6 on a tour of OVER THE TOP TOURS. But we were really disappointed: the driver hardly ever stopped or slowed down while driving to take pictures although we asked him to stop more. He did not give the free coffee mentioned in the brochure, and just put his Irish music CD on when driving. We never went to places where no ‘normal’ traffic would go. At 5 ‘o clock we were back, having spend a long part of the journey on the motorway M11.

If you want to make the tour as they did: just take what is called the ‘Military Road’ (= R115) and drive until you come to Glendalough.
There you can find some place to eat and then you will easily find the church and cemetery everyone wants to visit. There is a large car park. The driver gave us 10 min explanation about the history of the place. If you come by yourselves, listen to what all the guides there are telling (it’s very crowded). When the driver sat in the restaurant, we went by ourselves to see the 2 lakes (easy: beneath the church, you follow the road signs and the crowd): You can choose the path to the right to go and come back through the other side.
At the second lake, there are free toilets. And a large car park. This walk to the 2 lakes is very nice.
Then the driver took us back to Dublin through the motorway M11. Again easy to find if you follow the road signs.
This trip is a bit more than 100 km and you can easily find it on Google Maps.
If you rent a car and go by yourselves, you will see much more as you will stop wherever your want. There are a lot of places where you can easily stop on that road if you want to make pictures.
And on the way back, you can find better than going on the Motorway M11.
‘Over The Top Tours’ has many drivers and many busses (ours was in a poor condition).
So if you book with them, you will not know who will be the driver and in which bus you will be. That’s why some customers are happy and some other are not!!
