“good food, well presented.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 November 2010

I have eaten lunch and dinner in this restaurant a number of times as I live locally. Food , especially Sunday lunch has always been good in my experience and the dining rooms are pleasant, especially upstairs in the glass extension. It is not cheap for a suburban restaurant but there is usually reasonable value to be had in the early bird type menus. The only negative I have found is that it can lack atmosphere at times and the staff are somewhat lacking in warmth/personality.

“disappointing”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 October 2010

I feel the need to write this, my first review ever, because the pork was a piece of overcooked cardboard on watery mash and the service was pushy while the price was on the high side. Enough said....

“Won't be back”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 March 2010

First the good points: the food was very nice, the prices not bad, a good selection of wine served by the glass, efficient wait-staff, nice building.

But if you would like a warm greeting, any positive interaction with the restaurant staff - try somewhere else. I certainly will.

We arrived on time, having phoned earlier in the evening to let them know that we'd be about an hour later than we'd originally reserved. The restaurant and the bar were very busy - a good sign. A large party was leaving the bar to go to their table......

Having checked our reservation, without any flicker of a welcome, we were ignored & left standing in a passageway. No one offered to take our coats, no one explained the next steps. We were left to our own devices and we waited..............until eventually our presence was acknowledged and we were put sitting in the bar. No explanation, e.g. your table will be ready in a moment, nothing. I was on the verge of leaving when menus were produced. We asked if there was a problem with the table - we were advised that it would be fine, but that we, after all, were the ones who had changed the reservation.

After a few minutes we were shown to our table, coats and all. The service at the table was fine, efficent but without any human interaction. Clearly taking their lead from front-of house, our dining experience was processed through the system.

When we were finished, we departed as unacknowledged as we had arrived.

“An excellent ambience for dining with matching service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2009

An excellent ambience and well furnished, you have the option of indoors in the refurbished older millhouse building or partially outdoors in the all-glass conservatory. We were indoors which is very cosy & comfortable. Our party of four was well attended to while shown to our table, and then even advised in advance that the wine we chose was the last bottle of that type, should we wish to change. The ‘a la carte’ menu is exactly that as on the website, all on one page, so choosing did not take long as we nibbled on a crusty selection of in-house baked breads. The starters were an excellent example of the cuisine served here and promptly served quite soon after ordering, and all were delighted by their choices. The option to have halibut from the Atlantic seaboard was a definite for my wife, while I thoroughly enjoyed the duck with apricot & stuffing, divine flavours. Our guests enjoyed the hake and Hereford sirloin, which I thought was let down by being served with what seemed like french-fries rather than chips, especially at that price. All well nourished by theses two course, we declined the dessert menu, instead finishing our evening with coffees and time to relax a while before moving on into the summer night. Excellent dining with matching service.
