Booked dinner in le Bon Crubeen on a Sat night in May and what can I say...........I had a wonnderful night! The food was great, the service excellent and there was even a brilliant jazz band to entertain us. Such a wonderful ambiance there. The manager took very good care of us too which was a big plus in my books and not something you find very often. This one is fast becoming my favourite restaurant in Dublin. Recommend to all.

“Perfect option around O'Connell Street”
Reviewed 17 May 2014

It's difficult to find a good place to eat around O'Connell street, but this restaurant is just the perfect option: nice food, affordable prices, quick and nice waiters.
I'll definitely will visit it when in Dublin next time.

“Good but not what i expected”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

We went to dinner last saturday with some friends and i must say that i was expecting that was really worthy but not so much...
The place is nice and they have Jazz live at Saturday's night.
The service was average, not what we are used to in Dublin, with gentle and helpful staff, but was ok.
The food was also ok but what was really good was the 3 mousse chocolate!
Try it!

“Disappointing”
Reviewed 12 May 2014 via mobile

Visited here tonight with my husband for his birthday. We went for the early bird as we had tickets for the theatre after. It was our first time here and we had read lots of good reviews. Upon arrival, 10 minutes early, the manager seated us near the window under a loud speaker. We immediately asked to be moved and he said "no problem, sit anywhere you like."We moved to the far end of the restaurant and again he sat us right under a speaker. He said he would just turn the music down. We sat and read the menu and waited for the volume to be reduced. It wasn't! The manager didn't come near us again. After several minutes we then wanted to order a drink but no one came near us. We eventually had to get the attention of a waitress and ordered. We asked her to lower the music which she did. The food came out fairly quickly. I had the peach and feta salad and he had the potted duck. The peach was bitter and the salad was drenched in an unpleasant dressing. The duck was bland and poorly presented, just bits of plain shredded duck in a ramekin with a bit of chutney and some toast. For mains, i had smoked haddock with caper mash and he went for the rib eye steak which had a €5 supplement. My fish was luke warm on arrival with some spinach and mash below and an odd looking poached egg on the side of the plate. The caper mash was just plain mash with some capers sprinkled on top, which I didn't reach until I got to the centre! The poached egg was set, not runny. The mustard sauce was ok. His steak was cooked as he had asked but not overly impressive, just served with peppercorn butter on top and a bowl of chips on the side. Hardly worth an extra fiver! We declined dessert or coffee as we were so disappointed with the meal at this stage. As a chef myself, I wonder how this place got such good reviews, perhaps they were old reviews and the standards have slipped? Although the menu reads well, in my opinion, this is just average bar food and not the restaurant standard they boast of. We will certainly not be returning and would not recommend this place to anyone.

“Arrogant management and average food”
Reviewed 10 May 2014

Having purchased a Grab One voucher for 45 Euro per couple, I ate here last night with three friends. We all 4 left, feeling both underwhelmed with the experience and very angry with both Managers on duty for their handling of a particular complaint.

We were dining from the A la Carte Menu because and I have to say, I for one would not bother with the voucher arrangement ever again - it has a certain '2nd class citizenship' feel about it when the full set of menus were whipped away once we revealed our 'voucher' status! It immediately made me suspect that we might also be served 2nd class food for choosing to participate in a voucher scheme!

We were surprised to find that the House wine was not French in what considers itself to be a French?/Irish restaurant , and chose the Argentinian Malbec from the list. Very drinkable, but steep at 26 Euro a bottle.
The starters (Mussels, Crab Salad, and 2 Chicken Liver Parfait) and all round were perfectly adequate - not bad for a Northside Dublin restaurant of which there are few, but not comparable (as is suggested by one reviewer above) to Chapter 1 or the Hot Stone in Parnell Square. The sad, undressed, limp lambs lettuce garnish that was served with the Parfait for example belonged in the compost bin and not on the plate.

The main courses (Ray wing, Smoked Haddock, Ribeye Beef and Supreme of Chicken) were what brought us to loggerheads with Management. The Smoked Haddock was the best choice by far. The Ray Wing was nothing to write home about, The Steak was fine, but just fine - the accompanying pink peppercorn butter was sadly lacking in flavour and tasted of poor quality butter (not Kerrygold I'm sure!) and got pushed to the side of my plate. The accompanying double cooked chunky chips were cooked in oil that needed changing and tasted so. But the big disaster was the Supreme of chicken - a generous portion of chicken but bland, tasteless and unimaginative, served with 'mushy peas cooked with fatty bacon' rather than the peas, pancetta and red wine jus promised on the menu, and a roasted garlic potato cake that tasted as if it has been made a week ago and reheated every night since - positively revolting!

My dining partner, not wanting to make a scene, pushed the offending items to the side of her plate. When she managed to catch the eye of a waiter, asked if the potato cake could be replaced with something else (nobody had come by to ask how everything was, despite the fact that the service up to this had been faultless). The waiter offered to replace the meal, and not wanting any of the other options on the menu, my partner declined and was brought a portion of the chunky chips.

Shortly after, Manager 1 came over to check out the situation. He took on board the complaint about the chicken meal and offered to replace it (by now we were all almost finished the mains and were about to order another bottle of wine and linger a while longer). He instead said he would allow that meal when it came to the bill - this is where the fun begins - we mentioned our 'voucher status'. This changed things. It seems it was not now possible to allow the meal to come off the bill (value 16.95). We suggested taking it off the next bottle of wine instead, which we were about to order anyway, and he went off to see what he could do.

Manager 2 arrives over, and launched into accusing us of just wanting a free bottle of wine (among a range of other things that had been said in conversation with the previous guy that were observations, rather than criticisms)! We were outraged by his attitude, his arrogance, his complete inability to take on board a genuine complaint and his outright attack on us as customers - the customer is most certainly not always right in this establishment! We said that we would not now be having dessert (which is part of the 3 course deal). He offered Irish coffees instead, emphasising that he himself would pay for the whiskey to go into them out of his own pocket, but no way he was 'giving' us a bottle of wine. I say again, we did not want a 'free' bottle of wine - a gesture of some kind would have sufficed, and 4 people would have left the restaurant at least feeling like we had been treated with respect. The management approach here was that 'we were the problem' - 'nobody else was complaining' - 'we do 150 plates every night and you were the only people to complain ...' etc.

By now, the evening was ruined anyway. We paid our wine bill and left. This is one restaurant that we will not be visiting again. The attitude of management to the customer leaves a lot to be desired.
