“A very bad choice”
Reviewed 19 May 2014

Saturday night a la carte dinner for two. It was a disaster, bad food, bad service and terrible atmosphere. This restaurant is living on its past record. The starters, muscles and potato & leek soup. After the first mouthful of the soup the spoon was placed back on the table and it was agreed it could only go downhill and we wouldn’t be returning. The soup was terrible, lacking flavor or substance and over watery. The main course, steak and fish was a coloured version of beer mats. We left and took a taxi immediately uptown back to civilization. A bad choice on my behalf, this restaurant is not worth reviewing, avoid.

Clearly prawn bisque and a silver spoon is more up your alley. We serve a delicious hearty home made leek and potato soup, which clearly is not your thing. We would have happily exchanged it for another dish from our extensive starter options had you advised us that you didn't like your choice. In relation to the 'beer mat' comment about the fish and meat, if you read previous reviews you will see that they rave about our fish and meat dishes as we use local produce..... Once again, I suppose it's a matter of personal taste but thank you for taking the time to review - we do look into every review and sometimes even the best of us can get it wrong. :-)

“Fabulous-Fabulous-fabulous”

Booked dinner in le Bon Crubeen on a Sat night in May and what can I say...........I had a wonnderful night! The food was great, the service excellent and there was even a brilliant jazz band to entertain us. Such a wonderful ambiance there. The manager took very good care of us too which was a big plus in my books and not something you find very often. This one is fast becoming my favourite restaurant in Dublin. Recommend to all.

“Perfect option around O'Connell Street”
Reviewed 17 May 2014

It's difficult to find a good place to eat around O'Connell street, but this restaurant is just the perfect option: nice food, affordable prices, quick and nice waiters.
I'll definitely will visit it when in Dublin next time.

“Good but not what i expected”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

We went to dinner last saturday with some friends and i must say that i was expecting that was really worthy but not so much...
The place is nice and they have Jazz live at Saturday's night.
The service was average, not what we are used to in Dublin, with gentle and helpful staff, but was ok.
The food was also ok but what was really good was the 3 mousse chocolate!
Try it!

“Disappointing”
Reviewed 12 May 2014 via mobile

Visited here tonight with my husband for his birthday. We went for the early bird as we had tickets for the theatre after. It was our first time here and we had read lots of good reviews. Upon arrival, 10 minutes early, the manager seated us near the window under a loud speaker. We immediately asked to be moved and he said "no problem, sit anywhere you like."We moved to the far end of the restaurant and again he sat us right under a speaker. He said he would just turn the music down. We sat and read the menu and waited for the volume to be reduced. It wasn't! The manager didn't come near us again. After several minutes we then wanted to order a drink but no one came near us. We eventually had to get the attention of a waitress and ordered. We asked her to lower the music which she did. The food came out fairly quickly. I had the peach and feta salad and he had the potted duck. The peach was bitter and the salad was drenched in an unpleasant dressing. The duck was bland and poorly presented, just bits of plain shredded duck in a ramekin with a bit of chutney and some toast. For mains, i had smoked haddock with caper mash and he went for the rib eye steak which had a €5 supplement. My fish was luke warm on arrival with some spinach and mash below and an odd looking poached egg on the side of the plate. The caper mash was just plain mash with some capers sprinkled on top, which I didn't reach until I got to the centre! The poached egg was set, not runny. The mustard sauce was ok. His steak was cooked as he had asked but not overly impressive, just served with peppercorn butter on top and a bowl of chips on the side. Hardly worth an extra fiver! We declined dessert or coffee as we were so disappointed with the meal at this stage. As a chef myself, I wonder how this place got such good reviews, perhaps they were old reviews and the standards have slipped? Although the menu reads well, in my opinion, this is just average bar food and not the restaurant standard they boast of. We will certainly not be returning and would not recommend this place to anyone.
