“Great overnight stay to catch the Eagles in concert at the O2!”
Reviewed 7 June 2014

Just back from a 2 night stay in Dublin to catch an Eagles concert with my hubby. The first night we stayed at Ariel House beside the Aviva stadium (a separate review). We arrived at rhe Gibson on Friday at around 12 noon, expecting to leave bags off and head to the Jameson distillery tour (separate review), however we were pleasantly able to check into our room! The Gibson is an ultra modern hotel, I just feel in love with the room, the decor and the walkin shower, with both regular shower head and rainforest shower! Wow, the location was perfect for the concert at the O2 arena, just across the courtyard, breakfast was perfect, full Irish and conteniental. The hotel has over 200 rooms and it was fully booked but it didn't feel hectic or overly busy. There is a lovely relaxation room and gym on the 6floor with sauna, steam room and copper baths, and a gym. Overall can't wait to visit again. Just perfect.

We were going to a concert in the O2 and stayed in the Gibson- so the adventure begins-step off the Luas (public tram system) and you are at the front door of the hotel. Reception is on the 3rd floor. We were welcomed to the hotel by Po and it was a genuine welcome. We chatted as we booked in and he told us all that was on offer and other reception staff said hello as passing the desk-such a refreshing attitude-Nice touches comp-newspapers, bonbons, sheep and pigs in reception- Relax just Sculptures! We had a lovely view of the liffey with a tall ship just docking. Lovely spacious bedroom, bottled water, large drench shower and quirky post-it notes.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view

WE had pre Eagles concert drinks at the GIbson as it is next to the O2 arena , The main bar was full of people having bar food and drinks , the other small bar was staffed by what I can only describe as the 2 slowest most inefficient bar men I have ever seen , they were incredibly slow and had absolutely no interest in the fact that there were huge numbers of people looking to be served , someone Realy needs to show these guys how to pull a pint of Heineken and to see the terrible attempt at pulling Guinness was bit of a joke .

Friends of ours stayed there and they said the rooms were nice

After reading the great reviews on this hotel we knew it would be a great stay, but we were blown away by the level of detail, professionalism yet but so quirky, style and class. We arrive some what early, our room was not ready so we left our bags whilst we enjoyed some drinks in town. We walked in 20 minutes or so and it's very nice by the water. After some time we collected our bags, we were completely surprised by how nice our room was, we had a roof top garden, with chairs and tables, the room was very modern, mostly it was spotlessly clean, we really enjoyed that we had a rooftop garden with seats and tables. A great location far enough from the hectic city life but yet close enough to access. The DART luas stops right in front of the hotel. Top marks all round

Billed as chic and understated, located in the heart of Dublin’s new cultural hub, Point Village, arrival at the Gibson was a disappointment.

The hotel is, in reality, located on the edge of the docklands, surrounded by derelict sites, empty retail outlets and partially completed office blocks, presumably victims of the economic crisis that affected Ireland so severely.

Point Village turns out to be the Odeon, O2 venue, an underground bar and the tram terminus.

Entering the Gibson, expecting a reception area, it is not here, but on the third floor accessed by escalator or lift. If however you find your room is on the higher floors, the same lift cannot take you there and it is necessary to cross the hotel to a different lift.

The bedroom was spacious, clean, well appointed with excellent separate bath and drench shower. Fresh bottled water was delivered to the room each day and guests are offered a complimentary local daily newspaper. The views however were onto wasteland in each direction. The rooms were cold, but electric heaters were provided and used.

Of the two bars, only one is in full time operation and when the hemidemisemiquaver (HDSQ) bar is full with guests eating, it is not possible to have a drink there. The part-time bar serves a limited range of drinks compared to the main HDSQ bar. Residents must go to the HDSQ bar, buy their chosen drink and return to the smaller bar lounge to consume the said drink.

The breakfast buffet was lacklustre and the dinner menu unexceptional. On one occasion at dinner, having ordered soup of the day, the waitress returned stating it was not available, but brought the substitute anyway!

The guest experience was inconsistent, with some staff being helpful and charming with others broadly disinterested. At check out, there was no conversation from the desk staff about satisfaction with my stay.

The piped music was excellent, living up to the rock theme and the complimentary Wi-Fi was easy to access reliable and faster than many hotels. The Luas (tram) access to the city is adjacent and easy to use with an all day ticket easily purchased from the automatic ticket machine at the terminus.

Regrettably, the fabric and cleanliness of the public areas fell well below expectations. While the bedrooms and bathrooms were spotless (with the exception of the exterior of the windows that appeared not have been cleaned for a long time), the restaurant, bars and public areas were not clean. The floors were grubby and the soft furnishings stained and worn to the point of fraying in many areas. In the HDSQ bar, the one-way hand operated waiting staff door into the kitchen was covered by a very large, dirty, greasy mark where it was opened. This can’t be good as it is the same staff that are serving our food.

If you are coming to the O2 to see a gig and need good Wi-Fi and enjoy quality piped music, this is your place. Otherwise consider somewhere different.

Went to this hotel earlier this year and it really was a nice treat surprisingly easy to find just at the O2 we weren't there for any concerts just to relax for the night and some shopping.First impressions last and at first glance its a cold and sterile building but meeting the fabulous repletion staff it felt warm and welcoming hats off to who ever trains the staff because each one is on the a game.We stayed in a executive which was great with a balcony the room was stop less with everything we would want the wifi worked great bed comfortable great room.We went wandering in dublin for a while which is access as the luas stops just outside hotel which is great.Bar was funky with a great vibe a little expensive for some drinks but I won't complain.Breakfast the next morning was amazing the care and attention shown was great to see I will stay again and again.
