I took my husband to Dublin for his birthday and we stayed at The Clarence - I was slightly nervous that maybe it would just be hanging on a title of it's owners but have to say we loved it, our room was huge with lovely large bed and the staff we're delightful, helpful and charming - and it's location is fantastic. Thank you to all the staff there for a lovely weekend.

The Clarence Hotel is in a great location, the rooms compact (ours was anyway), bathrooms stylish and spotless, staff are really friendly and helpful, and beds very comfortable.
I don’t like to post negative comments, but…
The walls of our room were in desperate need of a coat of emulsion. They were scuffed, marked and grubby. I feel that when I book a four star hotel I expect a certain standard.
Also one other grumble - the room looked out into a light well which cushioned any noise from the streets so it was nice and quiet. Fair enough, I wasn’t expecting much of a view in a city-centre hotel, but it’s not nice to look out onto pigeon poo encrusted window sills and aircon units!
Fine for one night - we just checked in, dropped the bag and returned later to sleep. If we had been staying any longer I would not have been happy with the room.
Would have given 3.5 if I could, as it was better than a 3 but not worth a 4 star.

The Clarence is a good hotel. The rooms are on the small side, but neat, and more than what you need. Some of the rooms need double glazing, though, as you will be disturbed by street noise from below. The in house bar and restaurant are simply superb though, and well worth a visit. Overall, a good choice to stay. Staff are friendly and efficient. Just bring done earplugs if you're a light sleeper!

My favorite thing about this hotel was sitting in the window listening to horse-drawn carriages on the street below. It was mesmerizing! It was my first trip to Ireland and I was a little leary about this hotel because some people said it was noisy/near Temple Bar...but everything worked out great for us and Dublin was amazing:-)

A fantastic stay in an amazing hotel. Beautiful room, completely spotless. The staff at this hotel have got the friendly/professional mix absolutely perfect. The Octagon Bar is superb and not particularly over priced in comparison with the very close bars of Temple Bar. Loved it :)

Room Tip: We were upgraded to a river view which was more than we expected.

Lovely hotel in the heart of Dublin. Staff friendly and accommodation excellent. Great breakfast. Nothing to complain about the stay, they had everything covered. Hotel was close enough to the Guinness Store house to walk as well as many bars and places to eat.

The Clarence is well located, with clean, understated decor and a very helpful concierge staff. The Cleaver East, which is the in-premises restaurant, is a superb tapas-style restaurant with an outstanding kitchen. The only notable shortcoming was in the Octagon Bar. The bar staff is comprised of the most indolent, unmotivated servers we have ever encountered. They spent their time making loud noises with dishes and ice and tending their mobile phones. After getting our initial drinks, our party of 6 went an hour and 20 minutes without a follow-up (there were maybe 20 people in the bar).

Our furnishings are simple: classic Shaker oak, beds dressed in cool white linen, sitting elegantly in contrast to a palate of vibrant cardinal colours, rich drapes and luxe carpets. We aim to provide all the simple needs of our guests and we offer 'round the clock room service and all rooms have complimentary WiFi as standard. It is also worth noting that our location does mean that the area can be lively at night, especially at the weekends and while we have taken every effort to reduce noise, it is not possible to block it all out. Please do consider this before booking. Within the hotel complex there are many drinking and dining experiences, from the chilled out bliss of The Study to the super stylish Octagon Bar, the perfect spot for an afternoon cocktail or a laid back nightcap. We also have Michelin star chef Oliver Dunne's Cleaver East restaurant within our walls and we are very proud that Oliver and his team provide all catering at the hotel, so whether it's a late night bite in your room or a Full Irish breakfast the next morning, you know your food will be of the highest standard, made from the freshest produce, closely cared for by Michelin starred hands. In the bowels of our building you will find the luxurious cocktail and food bar The Liquor Rooms, home to Dublin's arts set and the first ROI bar ever to be nominated in the prestigious Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards. On our first floor, overlooking the River Liffey lies The Cleaver East Suite at The Clarence, which can be reserved for special occasions, from large weddings to intimate business meetings. ... more   less
