The Clarence has a great location in Temple Bar next to the river, with Valet Parking available (NO Onsite Parking). All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. During our stay it was quiet in the hotel itself .
However our rooms were towards the back of the Hotel and overlooked one of the outside areas of one of the Hotel's bars. Even with the double glazing the revelry could still be heard at 2AM.
So if you are happy to join in the late fun you should have a great time at The Clarence.
If you're a light sleeper may be worth getting a room not overlooking the bars. We didn't eat in the hotel for breakfast as there is a wide choice of establishments close by the Hotel.

Thanks for reviewing The Clarence following your recent stay with us. I’m happy to hear you found our team to be both friendly and helpful. It is however a pity to read that your stay with us was impacted upon by noise from a neighbouring late night venue as our hotel bar, The Octagon, does not have an outside area. I very much hope you have the opportunity to visit us here at The Clarence again and experience a quieter night on that occasion.

The Clarence is a lovely boutique hotel - in what I understand is the "Arts and Craft Movement" style - very centrally located by the Liffey, just down the road from Ha’penny bridge.

In my particular circumstances, which are too convoluted to go through here, I was kindly offered an upgrade to the next category of room (a Deluxe King), which was spacious and comfortably, if simply, appointed. The room overlooked adjacent buildings in Temple Bar.

Being so centrally located in Ireland's capital, one would have to be a little dense not to expect a certain level of noise including from revellers in the streets below. As the hotel is in the older style, it doesn’t have double glazing, but I found that the noise – which wasn’t particularly intrusive – abated by midnight. However, I was staying Sunday – Wednesday, so I’m not sure what the noise would be like on a Friday or Saturday night.

I ate breakfast only once at Cleaver East, as it was - with respect – somewhat ordinary. 11 Euros for the most basic of continental breakfasts and 19 Euros for the ‘full breakfast’. While this isn’t by any means exorbitant, there are much more imaginative breakfast options just metres from the hotel. I suspect that Cleaver East would be a much better choice for dinner.

The staff, while not overly warm, was courteous and helpful with any queries.

Room Tip: Room tariffs fluctuated quite considerably and you aren’t necessarily guaranteed the best price by b...

Thanks for the above review concerning your recent stay with us at The Clarence and for your kind comments therein. We appreciate your feedback regarding breakfast and will discuss this with our head chef to see if we can be more imaginative with our menu. Hopefully you will come back to The Clarence at some point in the future to experience the results of this and also take the opportunity to have dinner in Cleaver East.

Thank you for posting your brief review of The Clarence in which you’re compliments about both the room and our staff are very much appreciated. I hope during your stay here at The Clarence you had the opportunity to see and do all you planned in Dublin. I have passed on your kind words about Cleaver East to the head chef who very much appreciated them. And indeed…. Irish Weather. All four seasons in one day on a regular basis!

The hotel was a very nice property located on Wellington Quay. The front desk and the service were excellent, extremely helpful and polite. My room, however, was located at the back of the hotel and overlooked the nightclub next door. It was extremely noisy until at least two in the morning. Though the room was a good size, the bath lacked an outlet for a hair dryer, which was strange, but otherwise was fine. It did have a mini bar that was restocked daily, and the hotel did have room service as well as a restaurant and the Octagon Bar. The Clarence was also quite close to many tourist attractions like Trinity Castle, Dublina, Trinity College, and the popular Temple Bar area. For service and location I would give The Clarence four stars; for the room location and comfort I'd give it three stars.

Room Tip: Pick a front room.

Thanks for your review Sarah. I’m delighted to read that you found the service of the hotel staff to be excellent. Being located in Temple Bar it is an unfortunate side effect that on occasion there can be audible noise from neighbouring late night venues when staying in some rooms. We work with these venues on an ongoing basis to try and ensure a comfortable stay for our guests, and so I appreciate you mentioning this so that we may bring it to their attention. The positive is, as you mention, proximity to some of Dublin’s most popular tourist attractions which I hope contributed to the enjoyment of staying with us.

Arthur on reception was very friendly, informative and helpful. The hotel is well located with easy access to the city centre.

Our room was very quiet which we appreciated after a long haul flight from Asia.

The decor was, not drab, but dated and uninspiring. I think they need to do a bit of remodelling.

Our price was quite reasonable when you take into account the central location and the standard of the hotel.

They don't have a gym on site but guests can use a gym nearby for free which has a swimming pool. Aside from the decor, I'd stay there again.

Room Tip: I stayed in Room 101 which was extremely quiet. The view sucked (facing into a central fire exit) b...

Thanks for taking the time after your recent visit to The Clarence to post the above review. I’ll be certain to pass on your kind words to Artur. We take all constructive feedback on board and will certainly consider your comments regarding décor when we are redecorating and updating our bedrooms in the future. It’s always good to know that guests feel they received value for money when they stay with us and that you were also able to avail of the nearby gym which as you mention is complimentary. Hopefully we will have the chance to welcome you back to The Clarence in the not too distant future.

Checked in with no expectations, but a longtime fan of U2, so I was curious. The price was right so I went with the above basic room-was upgraded to the rooftop penthouse suite with a balcony along the whole front of the hotel! Now I really can't be objective....French doors to a view of all Dublin. The decor was well chosen-oak floors and door frames, retro fixtures and well chosen carpet and furniture. Felt like a rock star.

I'm an architect and so am very picky about details and concept. This room followed the whole hotel concept of discreet hideaway from the world. Didnt do the bar or the club, though they are fine, with Temple Bar just outside. Found my new home away from when in Dublin.

Room Tip: upgrade! its worth it!

This Hotel is under new ownership. After staying here poeviously twioice it had been my hotel of choice in Dublin. But the new owners seem to be more interested in skimming off the hotel's previous reputation than maintaining it properly. The hallway rugs were worn. The enamel in the hotel bathtubs was worn through with holes and spots. The room was poorly prepared, cleaned cursorily as if the cleaners had too many rooms to do. The front desk, was solicitous but ineffectual. The manager was hard line with a take it or leave it attitude. In an unguarded moment one employee acknowldeged that the new owner(s) were skimping on maintenance. All in all the Clarence is off my list as possible places to stay in Dublin even though the beauty of the design and the oak finishings throughout the hotel preserve a shadow of its fomer class act. Disappointing and unsatisfactory.

Room Tip: it might not be properly cleaned so there are no good rooms.

Thank you for taking the time to review The Clarence. The hotel is not under new ownership. As such, there is no skimming off any previous reputation and we pride ourselves on maintaining our 4 star standard. We have a full department for the cleaning and servicing of rooms both prior to and during a guests stay so I am disappointed to read that you felt the good & hard work done by our housekeeping department was not to a standard you expected. It concerns me greatly that the perception is we skimp on maintenance and I would like to take this opportunity to assure you this is not the case. There is both reactive and proactive maintenance taking place in the hotel on a daily basis. Should this not be the case it would not be possible for us to maintain the previously mentioned 4 star rating which was recently renewed by Failte Ireland. It is a pity you found your stay to be disappointing and unsatisfactory and that it is now off your list of possible places to stay in Dublin as we will now not have the opportunity to welcome you back to The Clarence. If you change your mind in the future and decide to return to us please let us know so that we can ensure your stay is one which you will be more than happy with.
