Nice hotel. Trying to be higher class than actually is. Overpriced compared to similar standard hotels in Dublin. Rooms at back suffer from air con and extractor noise from nearby premises. Couldn't open windows when in room. Restaurant for breakfast was nice but expensive. Better to wander down Temple Bar. Staff very good and attentive. Would have preferred to have car park at hotel but valet parking was fine except you have to take everything you need from the car. Location good if you are looking to go out in Temple Bar, otherwise easy walk to Grafton Street area.

Room Tip: Rooms at back suffer from air conditioning and nearby extractor units noise. Ok when windows all clo...

Roy, thanks for the review you recently posted on Tripadvisor. It's a pity to read you did not enjoy everything about your experience with us at The Clarence however it's also nice to see that you found our staff to be very good and attentive. Hopefullly you will have the opportunity to stay at The Clarence again in the future and we hope you have a more peaceful stay on that occasion.

I stayed at the Clarence a couple of months ago for one night in a two bedroomed suite with My Partner, his son and my daughter. It was perfect for us, close to shopping for the teeneagers and a wonderful restaurant on the premises for us to dine while the teens chilled out in the suite. The suite was spacy and comfortable. The staff, from arrival to departure were very courteous and helpful and we only wished we had more time.
I would return to this hotel next time I'm visiting Dublin.

Following our horrendous experience at The Clarence Hotel previously the management invited my wife and I to revisit at their expense. With some trepidation we agreed.
What a transformation!
Every complaint we had the last time had been rectified.
When we arrived we were greeted by very friendly reception staff. We had been upgraded to the best room in the house, The Penthouse. The panoramic views from the balconies, front and back were fantastic. The facilities in The Penthouse were amazing. The beds, so large and comfortable and the lounges were huge. We had a full kitchen and multiple bathrooms and dressing rooms. Upstairs, complete with grand piano, was big enough and ideal for a party. Even the mini bar prices were reasonable. Fortunately, unlike our last visit, all the plumbing was working perfectly. The only issue we had was with some external noise late at night, but then it is a city center hotel in a busy area and so the noise is beyond the remit of the hotel.
Our cocktails in the Octagon Bar were fantastic and they had a great selection to choose from. Breakfast in the Cleaver East Restaurant was fantastic and we were delighted that it was served rather than a buffet. I can highly recommend the Eggs Benedict. Again the staff were lovely and very attentive.
Through out our stay the staff were welcoming, attentive and helpful, nothing was too much of a problem for them. While we assumed that the staff were probably aware we were there as guests of the management we could see that all guests received similar treatment and seemed happy with the service they received.
We were delight to see the massive turn around since we last visited. Congratulations to the management and staff for their ability and professionalism on the transformation.
We would have no hesitation recommending The Clarence for an ideally located, quality, friendly stay while visiting Dublin.

Room Tip: Rooms to the front are probably quieter as Temple Bar runs behind the hotel

My one night stay at the Clarence was the best way to end a 4 week tour of the UK and Ireland. Staff were attentive and friendly and the accommodations were top notch. The next time I visit Dublin I'll be staying at The Clarence.

Darlene, thanks for choosing to stay at The Clarence in May. It's great to read that it made the perfect end to a month long trip, that you found the staff were friendly and that you were happy with your room. Hopefully next time you venture to Europe we'll be on your list of places you'll visit again.

Great hotel,we stayed in a twin superior room,a little on the small side with the carpets a little worn out, also we got a room with views at the back of the kitchen down below, wish i could have had a better room with better views to be honest, but my own fault for not asking to be moved.Bathroom was ok,shower could have been better perhaps.Room was quite noisy at night but this did not bother us.Asked for more coat hangars for our room as there were only 2 available when we arrived, this was dealt with the next day and more were brought up to our room. The price of our breakfast was 30 Euro's for 2 people at the time of booking, but we were charged 38 Euro's this was rectified and we were charged 30 Euro's when i sent a simple email to the hotel to ask why.The hotel is within easy reach of all pubs and restaurants. All in all i would stay again at this hotel.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a decent view not at the back of hotel.

Thanks for your review of The Clarence having visited us in May. I'm happy to read that you would stay with us again if you visit Dublin and it would be our pleasure to take care of you on a return visit. Noise is unfortunately a side effect of being centrally located in a district of the city primarily known for it's late night bars and nightclubs. On any future stay please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate your request for a room with a better view and away from any potential noise source. While we cannot guarantee it, we will of course try.

Stayed here previously and returned because of the great friendly service we received.
Pleased to say the level of service is still very high with friendly & helpful staff.
The room this time was much smaller & the bathroom was cramped.
All in all it is starting to look a little tired, although it is very clean & tidy.
Great access to Temple Bar, however will be considering other hotels for our next visit as it is very expensive for what you get in the rooms.

Thanks for your recent return visit to The Clarence and for taking the time afterwards to post your review. Your positive comments on the staff and service are very much appreciated and it was our pleasure to take care of you both. As a boutique hotel our rooms can vary in size and layout so it's a pity to read you found your room to be small on this occasion. Hopefully when you come back to Dublin again you will check with us regarding our rates and availability to see if your next visit can be an improvement on your last one.

The staff was amazing and the room was very comfortable and well appointed. The double paned windows which opened to a terrace facing Temple Bar kept things quiet.

I would recommend this boutique hotel to anyone who is able and wants to spend a bit more for an upgrade to many of the other hotels in the area. Hope to return soon.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Clarence boasts fifty bedrooms and suites, along with our world famous Penthouse Suite. Our rooms range from Classic through Deluxe and on to our River View and Garden Terrace Suites. Our furnishings are simple: classic Shaker oak, beds dressed in cool white linen, sitting elegantly in contrast to a palate of vibrant cardinal colours, rich drapes and luxe carpets. We aim to provide all the simple needs of our guests and we offer 'round the clock room service and all rooms have complimentary WiFi as standard. Our city centre location means car space is at a premium, but we do have a small underground car park that can be reserved for a small nightly supplement. It is also worth noting that our location does mean that the area can be lively at night, especially at the weekends and while we have taken every effort to reduce noise, it is not possible to block it all out. Please do consider this before booking. Within the hotel complex there are many drinking and dining experiences, from the chilled out bliss of The Study to the super stylish Octagon Bar, the perfect spot for an afternoon cocktail or a laid back nightcap. We also have Michelin star chef Oliver Dunne's Cleaver East restaurant within our walls and we are very proud that Oliver and his team provide all catering at the hotel, so whether it's a late night bite in your room or a Full Irish breakfast the next morning, you know your food will be of the highest standard, made from the freshest produce, closely cared for by Michelin starred hands. In the bowels of our building you will find the luxurious cocktail and food bar The Liquor Rooms, home to Dublin's arts set and the first ROI bar ever to be nominated in the prestigious Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards. On our first floor, overlooking the River Liffey lies The Cleaver East Suite at The Clarence, which can be reserved for special occasions, from large weddings to intimate business meetings. ... more   less
