“Amazing location and even better service.”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

Unfortunately we only had one night at the Clarence before we flew home to Australia. The fantastic service started at the first walk through the front door until we were waved off at the door by the concierge team. The location was amazing and the rooms were pleasantly large and more modern than we thought they would be. We had one level up from the standard rooms. The staff were just exceptional and anticipated needs before we knew we had them! We made the unfortunate error of leaving my child's teddy in the room, and it was swiftly arranged to be shipped home, complete with a message on Twitter from our bear who explained to my ten year old he was having so much fun. Awesome, awesome service and I will definitely be choosing the Clarence on my next trip to Dublin. Highly recommend it.

Room Tip: I've listed the noise level as quiet but I guess it could be noisier than others if they are out...

Karen, Thanks for your kind review following your recent stay with us. We were delighted here at the hotel to read it and to know that your child's teddy made it back safe and sound after an extended holiday! I've been sure to pass your kind word on to the staff here.

The Clarence is the ideal location for exploring all that Dublin has to offer. The rooms are very well sized and those - as we had on two recent occasions - overlooking the Liffey are excellent. On our first stay we were accommodated on the top floor with a terrace overlooking the river. This provides a panoramic view of the city, both up and down river. Walk out the back door and you're in Temple Bar which is both great fun and makes for excellent people watching. But from this hotel everything is close: you're literally round the corner from Dublin Castle and City Hall, while Trinity College is a short walk. Definitely recommended.

Room Tip: Request a room overlooking the river; preferably with a rood terrace.

Excellent location in middle of Temple Bar area. Rooms are a bit dated but roomy and main bed was comfortable. Bit dissapointed with rollaway that was two square cushions put together rather than proper mattress - was OK for our 8 year old if we put towels over the join but wouldn't have worked for anyone older or heavier. Main issue was the noise coming up from street at rear. As no air conditioning and hot nights was hard to sleep.

Thanks for posting your review of The Clarence having recently stayed with us Liz. We are working towards improving the negative points made in your review including replacing some foldaway beds. Unfortunately noise is somewhat out of our control but we work with the neighbouring businesses to ask that this be kept to a minimum where possible. Hopefully you will return to The Clarence for a more enjoyable stay in the future.

Negatives; no air conditioning in room - inadequate room fans as an alternative; uncomfortable bed; old bath and bathroom furniture with no extractor fan; back entrance/exit to hotel smelled of grease (worse than a Fish & Chip shop); could hear a dull noise from downstairs when door/windows closed but much louder when window opened for ventilation.

Not what you would expect from a so called top hotel and the price paid!! A very disappointing birthday treat for my wife.

Positives; room was clean; great location by Temple Bar; and very helpful and polite front desk staff.

Finally, managed to leave my iPhone charger behind but haven’t been contacted (phone/e-mail) by the hotel to inform me they have located it!!

Mr M (London)

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else :(

First off, I'll say I wasn't expecting anything when I found out I was staying on Temple Street. I've staying on the street and it's loud. But I was extremely shocked that we didn't hear a thing! The staff was amazing. They upgraded us to a suite with a great balconey. The restaurant was awesome and we met some interesting characters. Overall, we had a great time at the hotel.

We traveled to Dublin on the tail end of a business trip to London for a few days of fun. This hotel was booked based on Trip Advisor reviews, and overall price.

This hotel is located right on the River Liffey, and some rooms have a view of the river. It is not located in the prime tourist areas, but if you don't mind a short walk it could work.

We arrived via the Virgin train and Irish Ferries from London, and had a small window to make the tour of the Guinness Storehouse before closing. We rushed in to drop the bags, and after a quick explanation the bellhop had our bags out of the cab and on our way with no hassle.

This is new hotel in an old building and has a warm, classic feel to it.

Note, that there is no air-conditioning in the rooms. A small floor fan was placed in my room, but I tend to keep the room cold, and the fan was not doing it for me.

There is a very nice restaurant in the hotel as well.

The staff in this hotel make the difference. We needed to keep some bags for a day after we checked out, and the staff happily did so.

Room Tip: Some rooms have a separate sitting parlor with a big tv. My room, 203 did not, but my friend's r...

So this review is not to say that it's a bad hotel, it just simply was not right for me and my friend. We were of the view that the hotel would be of a high luxury standard - this is by not fault of the hotel, more our travel consultant. We requested a twin share room, we got a room with one queen sized bed in it. Lucky that my husband trusts me, as I was travelling with a male friend! So we had to share a bed! The room was very small, there was no air conditioning and the decor was dated. The area wasn't for us either, we ended up moving to another hotel which suited us better. But, we were there on the night of Pride, and I have to say that the room we had was EXTREMELY quiet, which given there were thousands of people on meters from us was pretty impressive! So I give it massive wraps for that! So depending on what you are looking for, and what budget you have, this hotel may suit you very well - it just did not suit my friend and I. That's not a bad thing - just my personal preference.

Thanks for posting a review of The Clarence following your stay with us at the end of June. It's a pity to read you did not enjoy your experience here with us. Feedback such as dislike of decor and no air conditioning is always valued as it means we are given ideas for areas our guests feel the hotel is most in need of change, and we gladly take that on board. We have also addressed the matter of the twin room not being provided and ensured a process is put in place to mean this does not happen again in the future.
