Drank in the bar with a group of 15 or so. Ordered two drinks which they didn't have so settled on a wine. At 10eu a cocktail you'd expect more than a glass of ice. Was in great company and enjoying the night until a member of staff appeared threatening to throw a member of the group out if she didn't quieten down. He approached this girl in front of the whole bar and spoke to her in the most hostile manner. It is understandable that he wanted the noise reduced but to go about this in the most rude and unprofessional way is shocking. The girl in question was extremely upset and preceded to another table where her 3 friends sat. Towards the end of the night the same member of staff returned and rudely told them to leave with absolute no reason.

Great location, great room, great staff, great music in the basement - three girls singing Irish Motown to die for, ... and a great restaurant in the building to boot. And of course the famous Bar serving great Irish beverages - the blacker the beer the better! Had a great time. After a week of business travel this was a real treat. Not as posh as the US chain but makes up for it with character, and friendly staff. i will be back.

Room Tip: Rooms on the river are noisier but what a great view.

Michael, thanks for your review having stayed with us here at The Clarence in July. It's a pleasure to read how much you enjoyed your stay and that you found our team to be a friendly bunch. This is something we strive for so it's nice to see it's noticed. Hopefully after your next business trip, or indeed a trip just for leisure you'll choose The Clarence again.

I moved to Dublin just before Christmas and as a present my sister bought me a Voucher for the Clarence to enjoy an afternoon tea

This unfortunately is where all my problems started. I booked the afternoon tea to be subsequently told that the restaurant is not owned by the Clarence and the voucher can only be used for accommodation or the bar. I queried why the voucher was sent to me with Afternoon tea on the letter to be told this was a mistake and was sent in error

So we left and decided to organise an evening with a few friends to use up the voucher as there was no point in using voucher for the accommodation as we live 10mims away

Evening was booked for 4 of us and a couple of weeks later we arrived to have a few drinks. We told the bar staff that we had a voucher and if we could use to pay for drinks and he said only if we used all of the voucher as he could not give us any credit back, so a case of use all the voucher or lose it! We asked if we can speak to the manager to verify this to be told there was not manager on duty (it was Friday afternoon around 4pm). So afraid we could not use the voucher up we left and went to another bar

I rang up the hotel the next day and was told this was not correct, we can use voucher and get credit back and there was a duty manager on. They were very apologetic and manager gave me his name if there were any problems

So another night was planned and finally we got to use the voucher and the 3rd time of asking. We went on a Sunday afternoon and to be honest the atmosphere was poor. The decor in the bar looked very dated and also the service was poor. We asked for Hendricks Gin afternoon tea, which is normally served in a lovely tea pot and amazing tea cups. It was served to us in a broken tea pot and coffee cups you get at a wedding party.

Overall a very poor experience. I would not buy someone a voucher for the Clarence as it is hard to use and also would recommend other hotels and bars to go for a nice drink as there are a lot better in Dublin

It's a great pity to read that you experienced do many negatives in your dealings with The Clarence. It seems the initial miscommunication caused all manner of things to go wrong and for that I wholeheartedly apologise. Staff have been given more direction and coaching so that the situation you experienced does not arise again. I fully understand that you now have a tarnished opinion of the hotel but would welcome the opportunity to change this and hope that you choose to visit us again in the future.

I had some problems during the booking process with The Clarence, so much so that I had to complain to the General Manager, so I was slightly apprehensive about staying there. However, the staff made up for the problems during the stay and were so helpful. I celebrated my 21st birthday here with my friends, and really did have a fantastic time. We stayed in a River View Suite and had a lovely view over the Liffey. Great location for Temple Bar. I would definitely stay here again.

After 4 nights of driving around the coast of Dublin I arrived at the Clarence and immediately
all the hassles of other nights in other places erased. The staff is the friendliest in the country. The hotel is elegant and simple and stylish and yet comfortable. Helpful is an understatement.
I joke that I never want to leave and when older and more feeble check me in as a resident.
Not joking. Casual and beautiful. Furniture, colors and drinks at the bar the best.

Room Tip: Weekends are hectic on the street, but that can be fun.

The Clarence was beautiful and amazing hotel to stay at while visiting Dublin! Everyone was very helpful and friendly. They helped with directions and recommendations around the city. The Clarence also has a delicious tapas restaurant located on the ground floor, Cleaver East.

Room Tip: The River Suites have an excellent view and extra room!

Stayed here for one night over the weekend.

Pros: Great location - right next to Temple Bar in the city centre. Good bed and furniture, free wifi. Bar downstairs also nice. Staff all friendly etc.

Yes, noisy outside at night but this was ok with windows closed.

Cons:
Expensive. Total cost was €258 for one night.
Small Room. We stayed in room 310 which we were told was a deluxe. If this is a deluxe the standard room must be very small. No air con and bathroom was like a sauna.

Room cost 198 approx, parking was €25 as they park your car and there is no parking on site. We assumed breakfast was included but it was not (our fault, we should have checked) and this was $38.

All up it was ok but I think you can get better value elsewhere.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper ask for a room that is quieter (eg out the front maybe)

The Clarence boasts fifty bedrooms and suites, along with our world famous Penthouse Suite. Our rooms range from Classic through Deluxe and on to our River View and Garden Terrace Suites. Our furnishings are simple: classic Shaker oak, beds dressed in cool white linen, sitting elegantly in contrast to a palate of vibrant cardinal colours, rich drapes and luxe carpets. We aim to provide all the simple needs of our guests and we offer 'round the clock room service and all rooms have complimentary WiFi as standard. Our city centre location means car space is at a premium, but we do have a small underground car park that can be reserved for a small nightly supplement. It is also worth noting that our location does mean that the area can be lively at night, especially at the weekends and while we have taken every effort to reduce noise, it is not possible to block it all out. Please do consider this before booking. Within the hotel complex there are many drinking and dining experiences, from the chilled out bliss of The Study to the super stylish Octagon Bar, the perfect spot for an afternoon cocktail or a laid back nightcap. We also have Michelin star chef Oliver Dunne's Cleaver East restaurant within our walls and we are very proud that Oliver and his team provide all catering at the hotel, so whether it's a late night bite in your room or a Full Irish breakfast the next morning, you know your food will be of the highest standard, made from the freshest produce, closely cared for by Michelin starred hands. In the bowels of our building you will find the luxurious cocktail and food bar The Liquor Rooms, home to Dublin's arts set and the first ROI bar ever to be nominated in the prestigious Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards. On our first floor, overlooking the River Liffey lies The Cleaver East Suite at The Clarence, which can be reserved for special occasions, from large weddings to intimate business meetings. ... more   less
